Hello, Ill try to be as detailed as possible.

I just downloaded the latest release of nexuiz from sf.net.
When I run it I get past the N logo then I see nothing on the screen but I hear what appears to be a very very badly stuttering audio sound and i need to ctrl+alt+del to get out of it or else nothing happens.

Hi, welcome to the forums

first thing You should try:

enter the Nexuiz\data folder and look if there's already a file "config.cfg".

If there ain't one, open some text editor (like notepad.exe), type this string:

vid_fullscreen "0"


then save this file as "config.cfg" into the Nexuiz\data folder.

Now You are able to take a look if some personal firewall or anti virus software are popping up some security requests.

If nothing changes, I would appreciate Your feedback.

btw, to the developers:
for upcoming versions I would really appreciate to set the fullscreen mode "off" by default for just that reason.

BTW, Nexuiz uses OpenGL rather than DirectX so what dxdiag gives is not important.

Wich is an important point,

Are you using the latest drivers from your screen card manufacturer, or the one provided with windows. Windows "official" drives dont care too much about OpenGL, so my advice would be to _always_ use drivers provided by the hardware manufacturer, as these are always better anyways

Also I just updated and tried the latest nvidia beta drivers
No luck...

Hmm your system specs seem a bit low. Especialy the memory. It might be a good idea to start Nexuiz with low quality by using the startup option +exec low.cfg. You can do so by creating a shortcut to nexuiz-sdl.exe and appending the option to the target of the shortcut. Just make sure there is a space between the +exec and the stuff thats already on that line. And you might also try those startup options that will make sure Nexuiz is nice to buggy drivers/hardware +gl_combine 0 +gl_lockarrays.
But a try on an other computer is also very good

256MB should be really enuff to start Nexuiz. I'm convinced that it's blocked by some firewall.

Unlikely when he only sees the logo. Nexuiz does not use the network till you click on the "join" button..

However, I'd try to disable background applications as much as possible by using msconfig and retry.
