Hi, due to lack of space on my EeePc 701 4G, I've tried to install Nexuiz onto a USB Stick. It unzips fine, but, when I try to run both forms of the Linux Executable files, the cursor is slow and laggy, and, when I try to enter the campaign, the laptop just freezes. I haven't played Nexuiz in a while, because I changed my OS which took up more space, but I saw on the internet that it is possible to run Nexuiz from a USB Stick, this is obviously not true, at least, not for me.
Any Ideas?

I don't want to use DSN, it's rubbish and it's not based on Version 2.5.2, the hadrware can run Nexuiz, as I played it on my old OS, the USB Stick has ample memory anyway (8 Gigs).

it should not matter what medium you run nexuiz from. The only thing that changes are the load times, if it's a slow medium as a USB stick. Try copying the stuff over to your HD and i'm pretty sure it will still be slow. I suspect a driver problem for your graphics hardware..

Seriously though, why is it rubbish? If it's rubbish because it is aesthetically ugly to you, ok. But from a steamlining standpoint, it's beautiful indeed, IMHO. An 800mb game reduced to 40mb! And as for you stating "it's not based on 2.5.2."----hate to break it to you, but 2.5.2 isn't that much different that 2.5.1 (DSN's version). So DSN is still compatible with (AFAI) all the servers out there.

Okay, I see your point lol, but DSN just isn't for me, I love the graphics of normal Nexuiz, making the game much more enjoyable. I'm guessing you use DSN, loool...

From where? And by the way, this is not possible for me right now because my OS has pretty much just broken down, as in, installing .deb files does not work any more, I think it's due to the fact that one of my file dependencies has broken down, so Synaptic doesn't work. I'm waiting for Eeebuntu 4.0 to come out, because a complete re-installation is tedious.

Yes, okay, I admit that was unnecessary. But, I have tried DSN, and it works, which means my drivers are fine, right? So I don't know why using my USB Stick won't work.

Are you running DSN from your usb stick or hard drive?
Also DSN is less demanding on the video card, so you would see improvement on low end video and/or with poorly performing video drivers .

Hm...well, perhaps DSN doesn't use certain rendering features as the full game, so that's why it works. Don't take my word for it though since I know next to nothing about programming.

Here's my solution: free up space and install the full game. If you're like me, it's the only game you really need.

Plus, no matter what kind of jedi tricks you use, the USB install will always be slower, even if only with the load times. But... load times for an FPS are a deal breaker IMHO (who wants to just kill 30 minutes in a quick frag session...but first have to wait 5 minutes for the game to load?)

My laptop has a grand total of 10gig hard drive space (it's an ancient Toshiba). But currently I'm only using 5 gigs of that. All my pictures/documents/videos/non-essentials are on an external hard drive. Using this distribution of files doesn't hurt performance that much. I'd rather wait for a video to load up than for a game, since I watch a video once in a while, but I play the game daily.

That said, not sure what other programs you might have taking up a lot of space.

Yeah, try the usual route of debugging gfx driver problems.. What kind of hardware do you have in that netbook? Also, what operating system? I can only help with linux, but tell us anyways. Maybe someone else knows more about windows on these netbook things..

Well, I'm using Eeebuntu on my EeePc 701 4G (4 Gig HD space) I have an Intel Celeron M Processor, 900 Mhz. I also have an Integrated Intel GMA 900 GPU Graphics Card. My wireless card, or whatever you want to call it is an 802.11b/g Atheros. Anything else you need?

Well, I've checked most of my files, and a file called .java is very large roughly 850 MB. But I use Eeebuntu Standard 3.0, which is known to take up a lot of space, and anything I want to delete is not worth deleting as it only takes up less than 30 MB. I don't want to delve in to the large files as I may delete something important.

I'm running DSN from the HD. I guess thinking, that since DSN would run okay on my HD, so therefore the full version would run from a USB would work was quite naive. But, DSN doesn't run perfectly, campaign mode won't load, and some online games don't work because I can see in Terminal that some things did not load, like some .wav files, and also, in an online game, it was a little bit jerky, and the mouse lagged a little.

EDIT: I have now installed Eeebuntu Base 3.0, so I now have 1.7 Gigs left on my hard drive, I will re-download Nexuiz and see if it works.
