  • Hi all,

Just three days ago, I freshly installed kubuntu 9.04 (in parallel to Win XP) and downloadad and unzipped the latest Nexiuz 2.5.2 . But when I join a server I only see the players and items on a black screen, i.e. no map. This happened with every map so far. Contrary, when I start the single player mode with the tutorial, the map works and everything seems fine. However, once the turorial is completed and the first 1-on-1 is supposed to start, Nexiuz crashes, i.e. there are no bots, I cannot join, open the console or quit Nexiuz anymore.

I logged one multiplayer and one single player session (though I haven't figured out how to post these in a pastebin here). During startup, Nexiuz complains about smething like 'Trying to load library... "libcurl.so.4" "libcurl.so.3" "libcurl.so" "./libcurl.
    so.4" "./libcurl.so.3" "./libcurl.so" - failed.' .

    Also, I see lines that say 'couldn't exec data/campaign.cfg', 'couldn't exec maps/tutorial.cfg', 'couldn't exec autoexec.cfg' and 'couldn't exec maps/runningman_1on1remix.cfg' .

The not-state-of-the-art system I use is a Centrino Duo with ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. Does anybody know if all this is a graphics driver problem, or if it is caused by missing library files? Any other ideas? I downloaded 2.5.2 from sourceforge twice, so doesn't seem to be caused by a corrupted download.

Any help (simple enough for a Linux beginner to understand) will be appreciated!

  • As for the missing maps in multiplayer mode: Nexuiz uses libcurl to download maps. Try the following command to fix it:

    Code: Select all
    sudo aptitude install libcurl3

As for your crashes in single player mode: cd into the directory where you unpacked Nexuiz, check the permissions of the directories and files, especially if you unpacked it as root. Enter the data subdirectory and check the permissions of the data file, it should look like:

    Code: Select all
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 887580846 2009-10-01 09:34 data20091001.pk3

Finally check the .nexuiz folder in your home directory, simplest would be to move it away, so a fresh one gets created.

    Code: Select all
    cd $HOME; mv .nexuiz .nexuiz.rokennhasnomoreidea

Important Notice (if you need more help):

You might want to try to post your question to the new forum on http://www.xonotic.org, where most of the people that would be able to help you moved to.
