Mysterious segmentation fault on startup

  • I'm having a mysterious segmentation fault when running the game. I'm on Windows, and both the nexuiz.exe and nexuiz-sdl.exe have the same problem, except the SDL version just dumps the error on the stderr.txt.

I don't get anything besides the error except two resolution changes.

    My computer uses the following:
Athlon MP 1900+ (Underclocked Semprom 2800 due to Blue Screens)
      512 RAM
      SiS 741 GX as video

    Solution:

non-on-board VGA Adapter with own memory.

MP = multiprocessor. It was an attampt at getting in on the workstation market as they could be run in pairs. Little advantage in having one on it's own though.

This BSOD problem you say means you need the CPU underclocked? What causes that? This could be affecting Nexuiz.

+1 about the graphics chip. 6600's are becoming cheap now and will play Nexuiz very well at medium settings.

  • IIRC darkplaces does not support MP. Try forcing the process to run on only one core and see if that helps.

  • As I stated before, it's a underclocked Semprom detected as an Athlon MP.

    And I currently can't afford a video card :(

Athlon MP is not Dual Core. Now that Ed reminded me I remember. It was designed for Dual Processor boards (which currently is only used in servers and high power workstations). The MP was like an ancestor of the AMD Opteron CPU. I muddled it up with the Athlon M.

Well, maybe You can try to get ANY video card, all u need is more than 64MB to increase performance (GeForce2 MX would be enuff). Almost everything will be better than what you're using now.

Another thing you can do is enter the BIOS setup and try to adress more RAM to the video card (however, a desperate try without a big chance of success). :(
