Annoying Showstopper: "runaway loop counter hit limit&q

  • This happens in a regular basis now on my server while hosting "CTF Herforst Elite".

    The nexiuz process stops, and noone can play anymore.


    This is the error message I find in my nohup.out file, right before the game dies:

    ^7Quake Error: Host_Error: runaway loop counter hit limit of 10000000 jumps


    Is there a way to prevent this from happening??

  • This means there Nexuiz got into a endless loop somewere but we need more information to fix it. There should be more info around this line that tells were this error occured.
    Also please tell us which version you have been using.. 2.0, svn or maybe some of the prerelease versions as Linenumbers might have changed between those :)

  • Can you please post more information about the error? There should be a list of functions with call counts, a list of functions with statement numbers and an assembler-like dump near the error.

    And, with which version?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

    Yeah.. grav is set to 500 ... dunno why you think it's a problem... :)

    The wordwrap routine crashed when a line was ending with a backslash (in this case, "n\oo\o"). Has been fixed... if you just want to take over that change, apply this patch to your gamesource:

    and run fteqcc to get a new progs.dat.

    If you find another bug - the part of the log I quoted here is the generally useful part of a crash message. Watch out for messages like this one and quote them if you get another bug - that would be most helpful.
