  • in data.pk3/default.cfg, the gameversion not "formatted for humans" should read 21000 and not 20000.

  • Nope, it's correct.

gameversion is there to determine what versions are compatible.

2.1 is still compatible with 2.0, so it didn't change

if this was chanced to 2100 2.0 clients wouldn't see 2.1 servers and 2.1 clients wouldn't see 2.0 servers.

  • I understand.
This: "e.g. Nexuiz 1.5.1 RC1 will be 15101" made it seem that the gameversion should change every time.

  • Well, the comment says:

// Nexuiz version (formatted for machines)
// used to determine if a client version is compatible
// this doesn't have to be bumped with every release
// bump when clients become incompatible or any other perfectly good reason
// (e.g. game data incompatibility, engine version incompatibility, etc
// note: this automatically filters the server browser, clients of the new
// version won't see old servers, and clients of the old version won't see new
    // servers either

  • I didn't want to start a new topic for this so I put it here:
The FAQ is outdated in some parts, like the checkered square error screen was replaced by an error dialogue, and the directory structure diagram is not current.

Speaking of directory structure, it's getting hard to find what to click amongst all of the binaries, dlls, scripts and other files. On Windows and Mac, one must look for the files with the Nex icon and run one of them, and Linux users must find and run one of the shell scripts. It would be more friendly to new users if the binaries for different OS's were separated in folders, unless the program must be run from the Nexuiz folder to work correctly.
I might be wrong about this, it's just that I downloaded Nexuiz onto an iMac and spent 15 minutes looking for the .app, which I had seen in the Nexuiz folder in other computers. Stupid computer was hiding the extension from me. Also, where is config.cfg saved on Mac computers? If it is in ~/.nexuiz, how do I find that?

  • Right the directory structure in the FAQ is no longer 100% correct but it did not change that much. navnodeedit was removed, Nexuiz.app added and a pk3 file was also added to data.. Should be corrected for the next version though.

I do not find the content of the Nexuiz dir confusing. All you need are those two .sh scripts of linux and they even have nexuiz-linux in their name. The nexuiz.exe and nexuiz-sdl.exe should be clearly named too.
Well you NEED to be in the Nexuiz main directory when starting Nexuiz but that could be solved via script files for windows/linux (not sure about mac) when one wanted to create subdirectores Nexuiz/windows Nexuiz/linux und Nexuiz/mac.

Hmm the .app directories should be displayed as a executable on a mac so i guess you just can't see it normaly but others should know more about it.

I think on a mac ~/.nexuiz is used but i'm not sure were that is sorry :)

  • It was confusing because I had seen it from other perspectives before. I think it's fine.

Now a new thing: sometimes when I load a map, the map fades in from black after several seconds of black. I thought I had a missing map, but it was an official map, and eventually faded in.

Same here. I thought this was a server side setting?
