  • Well, the clock just means "please wait...". It appears while changing to the next level or if your connection lags too much. Latter is mostly clientside (from own experiences).

To make this clock appear less, just close your P2P, Outlook, kill your room mates or anything else which could strangle your internet connection while playing. If nothing mentioned will help, change your internet provider.

Heheh, love it.. thank you for that xD

One other thing is that it might be the server that have problems. I've recently experienced lags too on certain servers and when I disconnect and connect it usually dissapears for a little time but then it comes back. And I have 10/10 mbit so I doubt it's my line :P Though my computer is increadibly f*ed up so. I will reinstall i on monday and install Kororaa ^_^

  • I get that problem sometimes when my laptop overheats. My ping is find (about 150) and nobody else is using the cable connection, and my wireless LAN connection is solid...but I get the clock because my video card is flaking out. It happens sometimes.

  • It turns out that my wireless router (actually it is not mine but it belongs to the lady who owns this house that I am renting from) is not working. It is suddenly dropping lots of packets. My ping frequently spikes way up. Nexuiz is almost impossible to play online because I constantly see the clock symbol.

Hopefully, I'll get back to playing Nexuiz again soon :-(

Are you using WLAN by any chance?

Well you can take a look at the fps with showfps 1 in the console and i also think its somewere in the Options/player menu.
You can log everything thats written to the ingameconsole with the startup parameter -condebug or in the console with log_file NAME.TXT but this seems more like a drivers or hardware problem.
You can try a few (normaly not needed) options that might help with some buggy hardware and drivers.. gl_finish 1
    gl_lockarrays 0
    gl_combine 0

But i really think this has some other causes. Yeah its strange that Nexuiz seems to be the only game affected by it by Nexuiz does just access the network like all other games too and there are no knows bugs in it that would cause such problems. Maybe your router does have some strange problems with Nexuiz but thats hard to imaging. Also i never had similar problems under linux nor running windows.

Well you can enable the logfile like mentioned above and enable the network debug logging but i'm not sure it will tell much. Do you have this problem on every server or just some? And did you check like the others mentioned that no other application does interfere?

  • ~/.nexuiz/data/config.cfg while ~ is a shortcut to your home directory.. (propably /home/m0zone ) but you can also enter those lines in the ingame console which you can open with shift-escape and close with escape.. And those settings will then later be saved into the config file.

Well normally the clock has nothing to do with the graphic card those settings are just a very long shot..
I still guess you have some problems with your network or your provider has some problems with Nexuiz..[/url]

  • well I'm having that same problem too

My ping never goes above 250 and it stays stable @ 100-150 most of the time

    Clocks all over the place...

I also play termulous and even with ping 300-350 it doesnt lag as much as in nexuiz with 100.... how come? :p

all p2p msn and other bandwith stealing stuff is closed....I'm running it on winxp (altough it would be nice to run it on suse 10.2 x86_64 :p)

What is the cause of this?

  • Heh, my comp is also starting to act up, dunno if it's a temporary ISP problem (which I hope) but I get clocks and also, sometimes I see everyone else move and the game flow and I can look around with my mouse but can't move. Like if my keyboard wasn't there and my character continues to do the last action I did, if I went to left he would continue to go left even though I don't press it, if I shoot he would continue to shoot etc. Heh, I was once laserjumping and then it acted up and he continued to do that, almost died, survived with 30 hp ^_^

What is the cause of this?

Obviously your ping.. I would NEVER EVER play a game with ping >100 and i really doubt that tremulous ping thing.. Very advanced anti lag methods might cope with ping up to 250 but beyond that things get more and more unbalanced..
Please take a look at the scoreboard while playing (pressing tab by default) it shows the current ping and also the packetloss (PL) packetloss is MUCH worse then ping so even a number of 1 or 2 can feel horrible also its very bad if ping is NOT stable but changes a lot.
Were are you from? Most people (except aussies) should be able to find a nice ping server near by. When in the join menu click on the 'ping' in the table header that will make it sort for ping (not sure if it already does that by default). There should be servers with ping <100.
Also try to ping the server from the shell. If the numbers are way too different we might try something else :)

I have reinstalled windows so all existing viruses should have gone away, and I also recently did a virus scan (also for spyware) and there was nothing. Well there was spyware but after deleting everything there's still problems. I get the PL% (what's that now again), sometimes i have 80-90 but normaly 1-2. Ping is fine most of the time but sometimes goes to 100-250.

PL% Is how mutch packet loss you have. 80-90 is relay REALY bad. packet loss gives you a way worse experiance then high ping. The high numbers indicate that you having ISP problems or some of you local network equipment may be starting to fail.

  • Yes packet loss is really bad, i would say you start to feel it from 3% upwards.. Being a game Nexuiz uses UDP to transmit the packages telling your client what is going on in the (game) world. It can happen that a package does not get to your computer and thats called packetloss. "Normal" applications use TCP which does notice such a loss and resend the packages. But thats useless for a game as its realtime and it just uses the next package to update the world.
If this happens either the server has problems or the connections to it is bad. Things like WLAN are bad by nature for the ping and packetloss. Or maybe its indeed your hardware or ISP that has problems.

  • Well, though I'm aware of my houswife knowledge about teh teknikal backgournd of different sorts of lags, I'd says there must be something else but PL and ping, or the whole pingometer in nexuiz is bitched up. To be proved wehn playing in my company with ping 0 and no packetloss but thumping around like hell or shooting through my enemies. :?

  • Yea ive had packet problems problem MANY times, especially when playing Facing (which is really irritating, because you rocket jump, it freezes up, and you fly off the map- with the flag! ). I suspect that 1. my router is crap (its 5 years old) 2. My ISP is crap (verizon) 3. I live in the northeast US, when all the good servers are in the EU :( I cant imagine that its my ISPs fault, because I play FEAR without a hitch, and it is a horrendously poorly optimized game.
What I have found is that the best way to remedy this problem without switching ISPs or other things is to call up the join/server list. This resends the current data, and the game will start up faster than if you just sit and wait. Usually it takes 5-6 seconds to get back to fraggin.

If that does help, then your router is the culprit. As it seems some routers simply "forget" where to route the incomming packets after a few minutes.

  • recently im getting pings ranging in the thousands . used to be i could join galts and his ping would be 64 or around that now sometimes in the server list it has a ping of 2064 . and all the rooms i play in are now unplayable . same thing in game except i watch my ping jump from 64 to 97 >346>1278> 3000 and then back to 64 or whatever . then it starts climbing again . i have gone as far as reformatting making sure i wipe out any settings causing the problem . nope , same problem . and this is done before any updates and any software is downloaded . then i try again after downloading updates and such , same thing . i am using windoze xp 2 gb ram amd athalon64x2 dual core processor 4200+ nvidia geforce 8500 with 256MB ram , no router just straight to my pc , and nexuiz 2.4.2 . all of my settings are in at the very lowest . i have turned off all eycandy , and i mean im at the very rock bottom with graphics in nexuiz and still cant get a good ping . i dont understand because my internet browsing is fine . i pay for 1.5 Mb and get close to it on download speeds . any ideas why ppl are getting this problem on mulitple platforms ? does nexuiz hate nvidia ? do we need better isp's? or is there something in the console to tweak so we all can get better connection ? but its prolly just my pc saying it doesnt like me anymore or my isp giving me the finger

  • If you get a high ping even in the server list, this is likely to be NOT Nexuiz's fault. First thing to try would be another ISP - maybe you can use call-by-call to use another ISP for a test without signing a new contract. If not, but you've got a notebook, try going to a friend with it and playing from there.

As for your problem, you are probably experiencing packet loss or huge delays; setting cl_netinputpacketlosstolerance 2 on the console may be worth trying.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Even hardwired i get packet loss. I also get random disconnects and my router then indicates "no DSL connection", so it must be my ISP.

  • esteel: I used the have the router from hell that would lose the connection too after a couple of minutes. It was impossible to play Nexuiz with it. But it was very bad in general. Only after a year they released a firmware upgrade and it was perfect. No problems for a week after which it exploded. Apparently they had made a product that the deliberately toned down to avoid explosion, then they received complaints that it was not routing very well, fixed it and the hardware was not up to the job. Oh well, some products just completely suck.

I now have a new router which is ace.

Like ai II got a really weird thing some time ago where my packet loss would start at 1 to 2 % then gradually move up to 5 to 10 % and then all the way up to 80-90%. But the weird thing was there was absolutely NO red stuff in my netgraph. It looked completely normal as if I was having The Perfect Connection. It's been OK for a while now though. I'm not on Wlan by the way.

Cable does suck, at least mine does. It can be really good for a long time then for days my cable modem can not give me internet. Sometimes a reset fixes it for a long time but it can also return within minutes or hours. TV and phone over the same cable works fine though. But if it stays like this I will move back to DSL.

Are there any cable network guru's here ? I have a varying ip address that gets assigned to me by my provider. But it can be the same for a long time until they apparently mix the ip's around again. Do cable providers actually do this ? And at precise intervals ? Because my biggest internet problems are always on Monday night or Tuesday morning. Might this mean they do something with the network then which makes them lose my internet connection ? I also lose some TV service like Movies On Demand, in fact yesterday evening I noticed my internet was failing again and turned on the TV, selected that interactive On Demand channel and boom my router started resetting :D
