  • Put shots of your desktop in this thread.

To say this is a shot of my desktop would be a lie, because it is a laptop:

Of course, it goes without saying that people should stick to posting thumbnails.

    I'm too lazy :)
Thumbnails as opposed to embedding full-size shots in the forum.

That's what I meant. Missed esteels post as it was posted since I started posting. Screenshots as full size images make forums a nightmare to read.

This personal desktop background was rendered by a friend of a friend of mine in exchange for an invitation to google mail back in the time when those were rare. I still use it today.

  • Gah! I forgot to comment on my shots! (or was i just lazy?)

Well the first one shows some transparency effects on XP. Just the classic Windows theme with some fine-tuning: Lucid, PowerMenu and WinRoll.

The second shows the little quick-launch tray with the most important programs like browsers, messengers, editors and system controls. Even more usefull for multi-user environments.

  • This is a shot I took yesterday. Right now most of the stats stuff that you see in the right side of the screen has been turned off as it seemed to crap things up when I played Nexuiz (I actually had to reset the computer three times because of it and that is unusual in my case ).

It's Suse 10.0 (with some work put into updating a few things and stuff) with WindowMaker (since it uses less RAM).

For image tags to work you have to provide the link directly to the image. As an example, instead of using "http://img204.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ceilingcatix6.jpg" you actually have to right click on the image, select "view image" and use the adress "http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/2645/ceilingcatix6.jpg". In the first one you can see you are actually pointing the forum script to another php file (my.php) and telling that php file that the variable "image" is "ceilingcatix6.jpg". In the second one you point it directly to the image file ;).

Of course, the hosting service will not like it very much, as no ads around means no extra money coming into their pockets, but it's not like you're doing anything illegal (they could have set restrictions that would stop you from doing this but they didn't) :P.
