  • When the trial ends you can use mirc as long as you want, only you have to wait 2 seconds till the continue button is enbaled.

Btw google tells you how to "buy" it

    Yes, mirc sucks bigtime
It is famous for it's security holes and not RFC conform.

My advice: use xchat (you can get a free windows build on http://www.silverex.org), imho the best gui irc client.
There is also a windoze version of kvirc(screenshot))

  • I use an anicent client called XiRCON, not been in development for several years, but does what need to be done, and its very, very simple. Has some problems sending files out if you are NATed thuogh. This is the simplest IRC client I've ever tried.

Pirch used to be good, but IMO it sucks now.

People tell good things about HydraIRC, but it seem bloated to me, not tried it a lot though.

    i don tlike mIRC.

Thechnically, what makes XiRCON brilliant is that it has a very versatile scripting system. It uses full featured TCL as its internat sctipting language.

    TCL? *urks*
xchat has TCL support, too iirc, but at least it also has perl script support :)
And my client (weechat) supports perl, python, ruby, lua and native C libs as plugins :D

Better TCL than mIRCscript? :D And this is a windows client... and its less than 1MB IIRC :)

Mirc hasnt really changed over the years . If you dont like Mirc then use another client . It like a lot of the older shareware programs are popular but have a low number of people actually paying to use it .

Their are freeware and opensource irc clients avail and you can use Mirc beyond 30 days in shareware mode.

Here is some commands to get you chatting

    /nick randomnewbiesgoeshere
    /server irc.ircname.domain
    /join #channelname

  • I use chatzilla, the firefox plug-in and it works great

As simple as the original irc stuff back in the 80's

    anyone else tried that?

I have no idea what has changed in the last few years since i havent used irc in a long time....so something this simple is perfect for me

  • Chatzilla is great because it is totally free and i can use it on the PC's, macs AND linux computers I use. The one-click install was great for me who never used IRC before.

  • The only problem I have with Seamonkey is that it's too much stuff. It's very similar to the netscape browser where everything is in one package, from mail to calander (not to forget the browser).
The reason I like everything separate is that I can load only the things I wanna use at the moment rather then the whole shabang, making it much quicker.

Back to the topic, ChatZilla really works fine unless you're one of those people that need a lot more options only commercial software can offer.

  • ok so mIRC sucks, thats why its one of the most popular IRC clients out there. You guys should stop talking like you know everything, mIRC is the best client out there, mainly because its so _EASY_ to make themes and scripts for it, ppl who are lazy can use the nnscript
