  • I'm searching for a new keyboard.. are there any good ones to recommend?
I noticed many keyboards have problems when pressing several keys at once. Ok, granted i have an rather unusual key-setup with ujhk for movement and the weapons around them VS wsad that many people use. For example i can't run forward, strafe left and switch to the nexgun (u,h,i in my case) on about 4 keyboards i tried. I really hope to find a keyboard that works without those problems.
I now tried a Logitech EX110 thats actually quite nice to type and has a nice compact key layout but has the same problems. If i use the PS/2 connector instead of USB i get a few more of those not working combinations.
That keyboard actually convinced me that wireless is ok now for gaming. Quite sometime back i tried such a keyboard at a friend and it was horrible :). But that one works really great so wireless is ok but with those key problems i'll have to give it back :)
    So anything good to buy?

  • Keytronics KT2001 if you can find one. They have to be specially imported from the 1990's.

I am on my second Keytronics now, the first lasted 9 years of heavy use. It still works generally but could do with a thorough clean to get it working again.

My Dad has a Logitech and that's nothing compared to one of these Keytronics.

  • I use only Keytronic KT2001s I have like 20 of them :) Luckily, these has become some kind of "standard" in norway, so they are easy to get hold of.

  • I think that having used both, the Keytronics is way better than any of the Logitechs.

With a keyboard, do you really need a row of fiddly buttons that might work once you've installed some really pestilent driver software? Not really. With the Logitech it is best to not install the driver as you lose the F-keys by default. Very silly.

I would also suggest not going for a black keyboard. It may look cool on a website but in the dark you just won't be able to type at all. Beige is the best colour for a keyboard as it is not overly bright yet you can still see the keys very well as the shadows fall in between.

    Keytronics KT2001, in beige, PS/2.

  • My crappy emachine actually came with a half decent keyboard. Kinda surprised me.

I actually find a black keyboard easier to use in the dark. The white letters on black keys are extremely legible since the monitor seems to almost light them up.

  • Or learn how to type withhout looking at the keyboard XD. But still, The color is not really important, but the really good KBs usually only come in computer-grey. I would go for the one matching the rest of my desk though, if I had to choose.

The real good Keytroncis keyboards, the 2001s doesnt seem to be in production any more though :(

But one thing I'd really like to try is this one here:

    http://www.raptor-gaming.com/raptor/specs/spec_k1_dt.pdf

    It's about a 100 € (Computeruniverse.net)

Would be also kwite patriotic, as it's "powered by Cherry"

    gtz :D

    PS: Keytronic is dead

  • I started to notice this probelm when I bought an OEM keyboard. My PC concepts Keyboard with built in touchpad lasted me 2 years, and played very nice. I had thought I lost my ability to strafe jump over the years.

finally I heard about the Z-board being able to read 8 keystrokes at once, and so I started looking for keyboard with this in mind. The Z-board gets expensive, and I didn't want a special keypad for gaming, that I coudln't use for typing.

December, I got the Saitek Eclipse and I've been super happy I know I can press 5 keys at once and it works fine, you just cant press asdfgh at the same time. I use the WASD pattern to move, with space for jump, R to select rockets, z for zoom, x for scripts, f for grappling hook, g for taunt, etc..... (I play alot of Q3). This keyboard is back lit, and they keys are laser Etched so the lights shine right through. I resisted buying it on the neatness factor, but looked at it a few times, and read some reviews.

The keyboard is very smooth, the keys are very responsive, the keyboard has some weight to it, plus larger rubber feet on the corners to help hold the keyboard in place. Saitek has been in business since 1977 making various hardware devices such as gaming controllers. You can google and read a couple reviews on teh keyboard. Stop by your local Circuit City to try it out. BestBuy had it on sale for $40 last week.

    Google for reviews

  • hehe, that one...

he obviously has a slow computer or one full of adware/spyware/viruses and gets quite angry about UT99 not starting fast enough.

"What! Faster! Hurry up! I want to play Unreal Tournament! Start the f*cking game! Start the game, you motherf*cker! I won't say it again... What is that now? Oh my god, let it happen! I want to play Unreal" (now we are at 60s and hear the UT99 menu background music) "Fast, start, it begins, it begins! Start game! Start game you w*nker! It's loading. It's loading! I don't want it to load. When it loads, one has to wait too long. I don't want to load, I want to play!!!1eleven Think positive... just think positive... it starts soon..." (115s, UT level BGM, manically laughing about having killed a bot who is a motherf*cker) (160s, getting more and more manic) "The escape key is missing! The escape key is missing! Where is it! Where is the escape key? Where is it? Where is it? ... I don't need help and support! I don't need help and support! I don't need help! The H key as enter key. The H key as enter key. It does not work! It does not work! I'll kill you! Eat this you motherf*cker! I'll finish you! I killed him! I'll kill you all! Eat this you motherf*cker! I'll finish you! I'll finish you! I'll shoot you! With the assault rifle! Just shoot you! Which motherf*cker shoots me? Some motherf*cker shoots me!" (Player dies and cries in agony)

Which UT weapon did he call assault rifle, BTW? And what would have happened if he had started Nexuiz on this computer?

Another classic, German too (and of course, another keyboard bites the dust, along with a mouse and a headset): http://jobo.amarunet.de/fun/2005_01_17/ ... m-1on1.mp3
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Yeah its pretty bad, because so far i have not found a keyboard that works really perfect with all those key combinations. Sadly the Eclipse does also not work perfectly for me. I bought it because the reviews have been nice, it looks cool and is really a great keyboard. Well unless i find an better one i will keep it as its really wonderful :) And with 34 euros not too expensive.
This Z-board looks just too wiered. I'm not sure its really good for typing which i also to quite much. The only other gaming keyboards i have heard of are either too expensive (logitech G15) or not really good for typing (raptor).
It must be really hard to make keyboards that just send 4 pressed keys to the computer.. damn.. stoneage i guess..

  • The Saitek Eclipse seems to be alright however the shape prevents me from buying it.
In my opinion it's just butt ugly.
Back-lit keys are quite nice too, aside from being able to do 5ish keys at once but again, looks matter to me as well.

He wants to play Unreal Turnament, but 1. his computer didnt boot fast enought 2. the "long" loading time in unreal turnament is the second thing he hate 3. he killed anyone and then anyone killed him, thats the "shredder" part for the keyboard ;)

Its what emacs call the winkey, but the original usage was from this keyboard. This KB is what influcenced the design of emacs as we know it. VI forever btw.
