My two pcss are named: "quadra" and "lair" .
Quadra is the powerfull pc at the uni, lair is the lil old machine. They all run debian sid only.

Their names originate from a book. Or better to say, from a never ended book. One of my best freinds once started a sci-fi book, for his own entertainment. He used his friends as actors in it , the story was a weird mix of Tolkien's world and Star Wars. I featured a young knight in the book, and I was befriended by a dragon, named Quadra. The "Quadra" name itself comes from the allmighty "Quad Damage" . Lair comes from the book too, it was my sword's name, and it refers to one of my favorite weapons from Quake2

psych1 (AKA "crappy laptop", or craptop for short), psych2 (server AKA 'this lagging pile of crap'), psych3 (palm pilot), and psych4 (gaming rig AKA "holy fuck what's that")

I think you can figure out the story behind the names.

beowulf - laptop Ubuntu partition, achilles - laptop Solaris partition, grendel - server
very unclever names, they have no meaning behind them, except when I had just beowulf and grendel

Aoi-kun is my named. "Aoi" is the actual name the -kun is a Japanese honorific. Aoi/Ao means blue, named it like that cause of the blue leds it has on the front and the blue fan in the back surrounding the whole chassi in blue.

It did give me problems before so I figured if I got a little more personal maybe I could be friends with it and it would be nice to me too And fortunately it did work a little. Nice Aoi-kun.

My computers at home are named from the x-men, hence these names are used:
WS: Wolverine (cause of the chassis)
Filesrv: Xavier

At work they are named from the old movie WarGames, but these are to many to mention all, examples would be

The media system servers started out in the same name scheme as the work computers, with
lasvegas and
seattle, but when the media system became a standalone project the machines got their own name scheme, they are now named after major american cities that are the base for a TV series of some sorts, so now also
chicago is added

My info system servers got some psedu-mathematical jargon for names, as the first server was named

the display computers in the devel rig are named

geometric
etc

My laptop(s) though the times have got standalone names, mosly variations of the type
attitude (my old dell latitude PC)
etc.

My machines are named:
lethe (desktop, debian/sid)
styx (notebook, debian/sid)
charon (asus router, openwrt)

nemesis, main box. Athlon64 1.8GHz "Venice" core, 3GB, GF6600, ESI Juli sound card. Runs ubuntu. Has a 20" S-IPS LCD attached to it. The only audible noise from it is whatever comes out of the sound card, thanks to a careful selection of passively cooled components and slow-running 120mm case fans.

k6-2/400. The old nemesis, currently lacking a name. Has sound-absorbing foam intended for use in cars glued to its insides. Runs "kyrehat", what started off as an innocent redhat 7.2 install in '98 ended up over time as a distribution so bizarre no standard package would run on it.

For some reason my main machine is always called nemesis, there is a reason why this must be, but it is alas lost in time. The world might end should I dare call my main system anything else, that much I remember...

The rest of the machines:

jackass, 12" g3 ibook, runs jaguar. A broken internal display cable is the kink in this knight's armour. Oh, and the slow g3/500 in it. And the crappy 8MB ati rage128 graphics.

molass, ancient first-generation powermac 6100/66 with 486 daughtercard. Slow as molasses, hence the name. Serves as a monitor stand for my CRT.

A quirky RS/6000 with aix and a corporate-style machine name no one can remember, and two ataris round out my computer fauna. If one were to run a tank over the rs/6000, the tank would be sorry...

Currently my computers are called: eos, radix and helios

My 4 boxes - Mars, Jupiter, Homer, Courtney's Widdle Computer.

On some days, one, or some of them may go by the name of "Stupid piece of shit!"

Insanity: Main Deskop. Its named as such because what i get to work on my box doesn't work on any other box and vice versa.

Malevolence -- Part of a network of evil names , Router's name is Infestation, another computer is Corruption, another is Deception, and the list goes on

my car "storm" also from X-men. forward compatible for whenever I have time to make the carputer.
