  • Interesting.

    The 'are' usage is generally accepted in the US whereas 'is' would be preferred in the rest of the English speaking world. Which do you want to use? How about asking on alt.english.usage?

  • Unless alientrap is plural, I'd say using "are" would be direclty wrong :)

  • It is not simply a singular/plural thing. Alientrap is a collective and people have different opinions on this. I would go with 'is' and it seems like everyone else wants it too.

  • That doesn't quite make sense?

    Alientrap "is" would be the way to go because Alientrap is a single entity.

    "Being" would only be correct if there were some additional predicate to this sentence. Even then, it would still be very awkward, as a lot of passive sentences are.
