  • I found out the dojo toolkit is working on 3D graphics. It's very CPU intensive at the time, but when they release the new version I'm sure it will be much more efficient. Right now Opera is doing really awesome with DHTML, but in about a year or so, mozilla is working with some virtual machine stuff and javascript, so it will be much faster over time.

Now, I could be boring and say "we can use this for charts", but I envision a much more practical use... for this I present you with exhibit A:

Yes, it's slow, but it works. Dojo's 3d stuff is a part of SoC, and my web desktop will be releasing sometime this summer. After the release, I think I might look into building an FPS similar to the example above (right after making a jukebox app). The great thing about the desktop I'm writing with some other guys is that everything is allready there, the sound APIs, the 3d APIs (once dojo supports them), and for network play, a crosstalk API. Since we're really trying to make this extremely usable, we're trying to make it run as fast as possible (especially since the crosstalk API is pretty much using an SQL table for something like dBus but with callbacks  )

So, what do you guys think?
