I've been thinking over the past 2 weeks or so..should i just record my clips on my own pc?

If i do this...there will not be 100% Graphical effects..like bump-mapping, cause my card does not support this feature, however the detail will still be as high as possible, and i can start capturing now since i already have written the times down for over 40demos..that's quite a lot of footage...I could proabbly begin editing the movie within one month if i record on my PC.

Or..we can wait for esteel to record my clips, put onto a external HDD and send back to me...this will take quite a bit longer but will have full graphical details..when i say quite a bit longer..like atleast another 2 months im guessing..so 3 months in total, also i dont know if esteel has time to record as much now cause of his new job.

I'm growing a bit impatient since i say i will deliver, but at this rate it seems i won't, i think it would be better if i just release A nexuiz movie..with high graphic detail..good video quality and amazing frags.

well, you could allways have esteel throw them on a local apache server and you can just keep a computer on for a few days downloading them.

I think I'd want to see the best Nexuiz can offer, but I don't know anything of it.

What is this Nexuiz movie, and what will it be for?

i dont care, as it will be 6 moths mot pmatter what.

Some solutions which might be o.k.?!:

1.) Start making the movie and make a "remix" later on when you got the stuff from esteel (that wouldnt be to much work, as you allready know what you want to put together and are able to optimize what you dont like after the work is finished). So you get some feedback and the remix will be very good.

2.) Ask some friends if they know someone with a powerful machine to record (of course, with some beer) this stuff together.

3.) Last thing which might work: Ask here, maybe some people can help you out there to record stuff. If some with good pc´s can record some parts, it would be o.k. with downloadrate (e.g. downloading from 4 users at once isnt to slow and it´s not that much work for one person like now for esteel).

Just my 2 cents, of course i would like to see it as soon as possible (yes i cant wait )

If it been without HDR or offsetmapping, it would be ok to do w/o, but since bump/deluxe mapping is a standard feature (on in normal.cfg) i realy think a nex flick should have it. How mutch data are we talking abt here anyways? if you setup packages with detaild instructions and one demo file each im sure many ppl will help you render it.

it should at least have the essentials.... then again, if you wait too long it will be out-dated anyway

That's true..I can do a short clip to show what details my pc can show..and then we can go from there.

speaking of kojn's rubbish pc, our uni just got some new iMacs in, 2.33 GHz dual-core 2gb ram, 256 MB ati x1600 graphics, and a 20 inch display. Tried out nexuiz on one, looked crazy awesome, had it up to 1680x1050 on ultra.cfg and it was still pulling 25-60 fps (although I remember that one of the effects is disabled on macs)

How about you just record everything on them pc's for me then?

GLSL is broken on macs (unless they finally fixed their drivers), so the quality won't be any better than your recordings...

Yea, the GLSL really makes it look good- do it on a PC where that is enabled. On a mac you get some b0rked shit.

Please start capturing the video now... you can even use: 'slowmo n' to improve the FPS when recording, then speed up the end result.

i can get 90+ fps with ultimate.cfg .. but i guess u just want it recorded at 50FPS.

30 fps is too laggy for fast phased movies.

what fps you get is actually not important as DP is clever enough to reduce playback speed of videos. So you can record a vid of 1000fps even if you only play at 2fps. however the recording process will be slow

also ytou want to record at 1, 2 or 4 times the playback speed

oh n1. But wont that make the compiled avi file skip frames, producing "lag" in the video?

no, but this ofcoz anly applies video recording of demos.

or we could try to track down that dude who's playing on that 16 GB RAM monster and force him to record the vids.

That monster was also a mac iirc...

However i think Bundy's third proposal would be the best: split the demos into several small packs and post them together with your config and instructions. That should get the job done in about a month...

I'm not sure what you mean by "splitting it into packs", but if you mean like everyone does one demo and uploads it to some common place, then I'd be in favor of it.

Well my main problem right now is that i'm away from home and quite busy with work. I could record stuff for kojn at the evenings on my laptop but that takes quite a while and it does not make much sense without an external HDD to put the movie sniplet onto. the laptop can render stuff at maximum quality though very slowly . So far i did not start as kojn said he wants to tweak some of the effects (or have others tweak them). But yeah i would then need to send the stuff to kojn and it will take even more time...

If you'd be more then happy, then i could send you the movie configs, and zip of all the demo's I have checked so far..as well as my soundpack i want to use..i just have to add a few extra things (mortar trails), and that's pretty much it.

Or we could do the bundy option and get everyone to record a bit...but i can see this leading to problems..

it shouldn't become a problem if everyone uses the same config file tbh. They should just make sure that all graphic effects are supported by their cards. If you use custom effects like for the nexgun, you'll of course also need to give them a pk3 file which will enable these effects.

Yea, we'll i'm going to use a custom nex effect more then likely, and also the mortar trails + soundpack..and that's it.

I'm not sure whether mortar trails can be done afterwards, because they were not there in the original match. but you'll need to ask this a specialist

Im pretty sure they can be, tZork already talked to me about it and how to use them as well showing me some .avi's
