  • Hello there.

I would like to share what I found today on the net. It's a service that offers you a 1 GB hard disk as an online service. Sure, the max file size is limited to about 10 MB, but Nexuiz maps or demos aren't bigger than that.

Sure, I know that there are actually quite many of these online hard drives available. I like this one very much because it is nice to handle, and can be used in conjunction with fireuploader just nicely. You can use it to upload your demos or maps, and I would love to see users who tend to host their files on these (imo) CRAPPY hosters like rapidshare, megaupload, imageshak or filefront that are LOADED with ads to try out a nice service like this in the future. This service is free of ads (at least when using AdBlock with Firefox) and allows you to direct download files anonymously. When the files are in a common format like mp3 or image, you can directly listen to them / view them. It's just cool.

The service I am talking about is this one: www.box.net

  • I hope it really allows direct linking, or maps hosted there won't easily appear on my server. When people use sites like rapidshare, I first have to download the map at home and slowly transfer it to the server. When I get a direct link instead, I can issue the download on the server which is much faster and doesn't bog down my internet connection. Because of this, I tend to push maps hosted on such services to "later".
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • I tried it out. Deep-links are NOT supported unfortunately. I can understand your issues. But at least getting files this way is somewhat easier and more convenient compared to hosters like rapidshare.

  • Yes, but why not use directlink-supporting hosters like fileden.com, or simply put them on some free webspace hoster? The latter would also work for Nexuiz's map download feature.

  • true, but free hosters tend to get down at times, and thus providing direct links to these locations for the server download is probably not a good idea.
