First: Yes! This is a thread about suicide - because I would like to get back in the game.

Probably some of you know me - I am the guy who constantly wants new and better bots so I do not need to die online while everyone has a good laugh.

However one of my goals of 2008 is to ... to TRY to improve my gameplay.

For this reason I always look for some friendly players that may help me to get in the game.

Probably you might say: "OMFG just another stupid thread, just get your ass on a server!!!!111oneoneeleven"
And probably you are right with that.

On the other side you need to know I can count all game I've ever played online on one hand...
In fact I tried to play several times but the results mostly where THAT demotivating (50 to -5 or so?) so I gave up very soon.
I am probably the worst player you've ever faced. EVER!

I am not comfortable with teamplay, or anything else how to "act" (chat, tactics, etc.) best when playing with other ppl without driving them crazy. Also I have no real idea about tournaments or even clans (do not want to say I would be good enough to play there).

This is why I now started this thread in hope some poor soul is willing to play with me without getting insane or die because of my boring gameplay.

Well then I hope I will see some of you on some servers this weekend.

The fact that I am also German may make it easier.

This is not a promise or anything.

First of all: forget 1on1 now. Start to play on DM servers (there's one for beginners). Once you've gained some skill, move on to CTF or 1on1.

I don't think 1on1 is too bad for a start. It teaches one general awareness of enemies, prediction, movement, map knowledge and especially aiming and appropriate weapon usage. These abilities are important in all game modes.

Thank you all for your comments. Concerning 1on1 I REALLY suck at it... having more players gives me the chance to make a lucky shot once in a while but never got this with 1on1... I know many of the maps shipped with 2.3 but even with 1 bot in it I always lose...
I do not exactly know why this is .. probably because the bot only has one target there, but I just die more often. Also my brain seems to have massive problems to switch between *search...* and *found! destroy*.

I think in CTF it would be much worse since I could never concentrate on two things: flag and frag. and I do not even want to think about that I have no idea how to act inside a team.

However I will try to visit the IRC soon and get into some games... Hopefully I will finally gain some skills on ANY multiplayer game.

Just want to point out that there s no better way to get in contact with the friendly Nexuiz players. You're also kindly invited to join #nexuiz.de which is the german channel. And be assured, no one will laugh at you, even 4m never was laughed at.

Three ways to become a better player:

1) cheating, we'll skip this one.

2) playing a lot. I guarantee you will have more fun on the servers then on your own with bots There are a lot of kind players who would never ridicule you. In fact, have I ever seen this happen ? NO ! Just get on the servers, go for that one lucky shot And who cares if you end up last in some games, as long as you have some fun that is all that matters.

3) spectating other players while they play each other [press F3 at any time to start spectating]. This will show you how they get their frags and how they move on the map. And you could ask them how they performed a particular jump or move. Honestly, most if not all players will be happy to tell you

hm, you may be right. "last" doesn't necessarily mean "worst". it was fun to try the ladder, but it just ain't my thing. i prefer a large bloody deathmatch.

Mirio: you've got some challenge, it seems you don't play enough.

Now after some sessions in #nexuiz.de and some hints by friendly helpers (Thanks to them) I was able to improve my configuration and get some practice.
Changed my FOV, set some weapon keys...
I'm still not getting any kills, but I'm now working on it. Hopefully I'll get a better player, soon.
