Menu select entries... cycling maps... Instant Action, etc

Post anything on anything here

  • Ok, I have 2.4 and I dont' know if the software allows what I'd like (to practice), but...

My single player game menu (listed one level at first, I thought) now lists 7 levels...

"Instant Action" cycles the 'included' maps (hardcoded?, or where?), but not the other 6 now on the menu... If I play one of the other 6, sometimes it repeats next game, sometimes it auto-cycles among the other 5, and not the 'included' maps...

I have a bunch of maps I downloaded and are saved in nexuiz\data...
...while their .mapinfo's are saved in nexuiz\data\data\maps.

Not to mention all the maps that auto-download from online servers, that are saved in nexuiz\data\dlcache...

I read through the Docs folder... looked through the wiki...

Is there some way to get all the maps in one place... -and- have them show up in the Main Menu to select individually? ...and get nexuiz to cycle through them all in 'Instant Action' singleplayer? I can leave online maps (and make copies) in dlcache if I have to... but it's confusing to have \data, \data\dlcache, \data\data, \data\data\maps... and read about .mapinfo and .mapcfg... and I don't see nexuiz auto-generating any .mapinfo's, or whatever, when I do a changelevel to load a custom map. Is 'changelevel' or 'map' the only way to load these custom maps? 'exec' doesn't seem to work for me.

Basically, I'd like to practice all the maps with singleplayer bots... be nice to be able to select them from Menu... be nice to have them cycle with Instant Action.

    Any way/info on this ?

  • Just push the button "create", choose the map you like or edit a map list from the map browser, choose the game mod, find special modes in "mutators", set the number of bots if you like to have ones and go 8)

  • Cool... I overlooked that area.

(Might be good to be able to Save a list that you create... and have different collections... ? Also, if you pick a map in one mod, it seems it's selected in all.)

And... what determines a map showing up in the SinglePlayer 'Instant Action' menu?

    Thanks for the help.

  • Thanks for the info.... I did.

I also had some corrupt downloads but I was able to extract the .bsp's from most.... and one extracted to the 'right' place (before I turned off 'use folder names' ;)... so I copied the rest of the bsp's from the corrupt pk3's into the same place... nexuiz\data\maps ...and now I can look at the bsp's anyway. Funny looking without the textures... maybe I'll redownload, duh.

A bit much duplication in the directory structure... now I have \nexuiz\data (pk3's), nexuiz\data\maps (bsp's), \nexuiz\data\data (couple .cfg's), nexuiz\data\data\maps (mapinfo's). maybe I can run the exec command now, instead of map or changelevel... haw.

  • If you can extract the bsp, I wonder why the pk3s are "corrupt"... :?

  • Nexuiz doesn't recognize the 'corrupt' pk3's... "...can't find ***.bsp" ...and...

I'm using ALZIP... and it complains mightily about errors, but opens the pk3's, and then won't extract some things, but will extract the .bsp, usually. I had a couple .bsp's that after extraction caused Nexuiz to fail -hard- (terminates) when I tried to load them.

I'm wondering about a pk3 called "data20080229.pk3", which seems to have about 27 levels, including the 'default' levels... I don't remember where it came from. My 'Instant Action' singleplayer menu only shows 7 levels. Maybe I should try loading that. Is 7 levels the 'default' singleplayer menu?

  • I guess you just 'misread' the menu.. the 'instant action' button will simply put into into some randomly choosen map from the default maps..

If you wanna play the campaign press the start button below the list.. it takes you to the campaign level you selected! Its 22 levels..

And data20080229.pk3 came with Nexuiz.. it contains all the nexuiz stuff :P
