  • If 100 duels were to take place between a Polar Bear and a Komodo Dragon, which would win the majority of the fights? Please back any assertions with facts.

  • Polar bear, beyond a shadow of a doubt. Those things are hundreds of pounds, and would crush the lizards skull before it got close enough to fight. Also, polar bears could almost certainly take any damage the lizard could dole out with ease.

  • Id say the Komodo would die first, but the Bear would to, later, given the way Komodos hunt (toxic bacterial goo in their mouth, yummy)

where they fight would matter alot too..

  • Komodo Dragon 70kg
    Polar Bear 300-600 kg
Maybe the poison would get though the polar bears fur, and then again maybe not.
But there would only be little bits of Dragon left on the floor.

  • Funny. Two of my favourite animals! :)

i doubt the komodo dragon's fangs would make it through the thick fur and skin of the polar bear, not to mention past the bears paws the size of the lizards head. The komodo dragon usually attacks out of ambush (if it can't find any carrion), aiming for the flanks or throat of its prey, commonly goats or deer that rarely possess paws.

But if 100 duels were to fight, the komodo dragon would have to be cloned in order to attend the duels. The bear would suffer from exhaustion and eventually become unwary, revealing sensitive body parts, vulnerable to the ectotherms poisonous bites.

  • Polar bear would crush the poor little lizard by accident, it would be no fight :P

I really wanna see a fight betwen a polar bear and grizzly bear.
But it need to be fair, one round in polar climate and one round in grizzly enviroment.

  • ru ppl fucking serious?! ok let me give u a list of points why the komodo dragon would win.
    1. Komodos are way faster than bears
    2. although bears are strong Komodos have armor like skin that is incredibly tough
    3. the bacteria in a Komodos saliva would cause a massive infection within the bear making it worse if it bit it multiple times, sure the bear would hit it but it would probably do less damage than the komodo would
    4. Komodos take bigger prey out by the legs and bears stand up to look more fearsome. the dragon would simply knock it to the ground and start biting the shit out of it.

  • The polar bear would definitely win. Scales aren't much of a match for a bears paws.

Komodos are not faster than a bear. A human can't outsprint a bear but can outsprint a komodo.

There was a time during the 19th century during the goldrush in the US that fights between animals were put on as entertainment. Nothing could beat a grizzly bear, even a lion. Polar bears were not used but are significantly bigger than a grizzly so a komodo dragon simply wouldn't stand a chance.

Another argument for why the bear would win is to consider what a human would do against each animal. The BBC had a film crew tracking komodo dragons and all they had to protect them was a couple of rangers with pointy sticks. Any time the komodos got to close they just got the big sticks out and shooed them off, even when they were a pack. It'll take rather more than a stick to scare off a polar bear.

I would think that a few animals would win against a polar bear:
    - Elephant. African or Asian, so long as they're not an absolute baby their shear size means they can trample pretty much anything
    - Fully grown hippo. They kill more people a year than lions as they don't just have a massive bight but also are very heavy and fast on land and water. They're also incredibly foul tempered and have very smelly breath.
    - Rhino. Although it's not got much in the way of bite it's massively heavily built and would charge the bear down.

A few larger bovine species and some pig subspecies might also be worthy of inclusion just because of their weight. There are any number of extinct species that would easily win against a polar bear as well.
    Laters losers.

  • There's two funny things about bears:
    1. i don't like any bears, except the polar ones
    2. people underestimate them

Komodo dragons stand up, too, in fights. But that's no comparison. Bears may look harmless from a safe distance, but when a full-grown bear stands up in front of you it fills you with terror, because you realize it would simply squash you just by falling on you. It's as primal as the fascination for fire. Don't. Ever. Underestimate. Bears. And animals, in general. (including humans)

I always say trouble's not far away when you got primates involved in anything.

Other than that I'd put my bet on the bear, if it is a healthy one in its natural habitat. In case the fight takes place in the dragon's habitat, then it'd depend on how long the polar bear would have had to spend in that climate...

  • Well, as for the komodo dragon vs. polar bear argument, it depends on who's turf they're fighting on. If it's on fresh snow, then the polar bear just has to wait for a while as then it's safe to assume that he komodo is frozen solid and will be useful as a club for any nearby seals. If on the other hand the polar bear finds itself in the komodo's natural habitat, it should ask itself wtf it's doing and swim it's way home or find a refrigerated container suppler as a matter of urgency.

  • I'm not sure you peopl know how freaking huge a full grown polar bear is, but this might illustrate...

And also, to demostrate their utter cuddli-ness:

  • lol that last picture was priceless. Also given how poofy the fur on one of those BAMFs is, I don't think a komodo dragon would even be able to get a good bite on one.
