Why does anyone listen to Miguel? I'm sure he'll be requesting that future releases of Wine include a brown colour filter so that Windows applications running under Linux can look as shit as his.

  • Just a "quick question" about pronounciation:
Well, my evil twin pronounces it "Win-E", while i say it's supposed to be pronounced just like "wine". Who is correct?

  • Granted the logo for the project is a glass of liquid that is most likely alcoholic wine.

It is deducible for the project name and related pronunciation to be similar to the subject of the logo.

Phonetically, "Win-E" would be "similar" to the pronunciation of the inebriating beverage of the orthographically identical name. You meant to write that "It is deducible that the pronunciation of the project's name is a homophone of that which is depicted in its logo".

Or, rather than state in a verbose and pretentious way that the pronunciation is obvious, you might have meant to simply write "the logo has wine in it, so it's probably pronounced 'wine'", which would be far less socially abrasive.

    Anyway, cheers for 1.0!

Wine != Windows. Wine is not a kernel. Wine is not a GUI. Wine doesn't phone home. Wine doesn't come with Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player. Wine doesn't enforce Microsoft product policies upon you. Wine just translates API-calls.

There are plenty of reasons to dislike Windows (and therefore to end up with Linux) and there are plenty of scenarios where Wine can be plain useful. If you have a Windows app you need which runs in Wine there's little reason to reject it just because the "wrong API" is used.

  • Well, i had to smirk.

But of course, just because there's several good applications for Windows doesn't mean Windows is good.
