  • whats the point in asking a thousand different poorly worded questions with little adherence to basic grammar and no respect for RTFM and STFW as i can't understand

    and would like to know

If you're a troll, kthxbuggeroff, if not, grow up and start asking questions in a form that someone might actually have some reason to genuinely help you.

The credit crunch, which I think it's a fairly nice, if overly sweet cereal.

  • I believe I read a very good set of rules on how to post on a forum some time ago, but I forgot where it was and I don't find it anymore at the moment. Maybe somebody would post a link to something similar, since KillaGrunt mentioned to be open for improvement.

Until then, it would, in my humble opinion, help a lot, if you did as follows:

    1) THINK before you post. Post only if your message adds information to the forum or helps people understand what you are on about.
    2) Reread your text before you post it. Would you understand the intention of your text if you were someone else?
    3) Try to use comprehensible language.

Keep in mind that whenever you are asking people for help on a forum, you are asking them to spend time in answering your post. If you display yourself as an idiot that does not even know how to articulate himself, they most likely will not see any sense in seriously answering your posts. Instead, you will make people getting angry at you and calling you a troll. Usage of correct grammar and spelling might help getting around the "idiot" impression as well.

(Considering this, I wonder why I wrote this post, but anyway the point remains valid.)

  • Hm, lesse.... wutta do today.... i think ima go play something online. Hey! That's a cool song! What is it? Where can i find it? i guess ima have to search on Google: "How to post properly on a forum".... :P

"2) Reread your text before you post it. Would you understand the intention of your text if you were someone else?"
I don't think anyone understands the intention of other peoples text or sayings, no matter how articulate it is. In fact, the more elaborate a text is, the more difficult it is to comprehend the core statement. If this is true for me, then it must also be true for some others.

Other than that, it's not your duty to look after the less able. I too am preaching about the intention of communication (to be understood) and prefer a grammatically correct text i can learn from.

Sorry, I do not quite get your point ;oP

My core statement, to put it in your words, was that the text you post should be as easy to understand as possible... not that it should be highly elaborate. That, of course, requires the post to make sense in the first place which I do not quite see regarding KillaGrunts Poll.

Anyway I just noticed that I took this thread off topic which I read in some other forum rules is a breach of forum netiquette too  so I apologize and leave the thread back to its original topic.

Presuming, anyone knows what it is.

  • Something I value a lot is that they use actual sentences. That means big letter in the first word and ending with a . ! or ? Because the "use proper English" is a bit misleading. Some people might not know English well so of course they won't be able to make as much sense as a native or whatnot. However, if they use proper sentences they at least try. I know a guy on a forum which his English is very bad (his Portuguese), but he's serious in his posts and doesn't troll. He's also loved by the other forum members.

It doesn't require much of yourself to write proper sentences. I once was one of those who just ignored dots or big first letters and thought it was cool (because I was one of "them"). I was wrong. ^_^ It's way cooler to write properly.

  • You mean while playing Nexuiz? I think you can put it anywhere in the data folder and play the file by typing "play (path/filename)" in the console, but i recommend leave it in your music archive and use a media player.

  • you can use these commands when you put it in the cdtracks folder:
    cd on/off/reset/remap/close/play/loop/stop/pause/resume/eject/info

  • To make .ogg files, try Audacity. It's an Open Source audio editor and converts .mp3, .wav and .ogg.
I create .pk3-files by making a .zip-folder and renaming the .zip-ending to .pk3. Works for me. Just put your .ogg-file into a .zip-archive and rename the ending.

    Try Nexuiz/data/sound/cdtracks

If you don't know how to open a pk3 file just use winrar if you are on winblows or stuffit if you are on a Mac.
Judging from your posts Its unlikely you have ever used Linux.
