  • How does nexuiz even work on a modem line by the way? if i rrecall correctly with 8 players you hit a bit over 100kilobit traffic...

It was not a question for you dark_link, butyou might have interest in the answers, as I'm not sure its possible to play nexuiz online with a modem. Do you know yourmodem speed?

  • yeah, 39-45.2 kilobytes per second. What does that have to do with anything?

  • When you play nexuiz online, I'm not sure that is enough, as there quite a lot of traffic that will be sent between you and the server. If you play locally. it doesnt matter.

But as I said, I'm not sure how much bandwith is needed to play. Someone answer this please. Esteel?

384kbit/sec downstream, 98kbit/sec upstream should be enough, but then constantly (not going up and down all the time) and with a fast response. Quality, not quantity is required. Actually there ain't too much traffic as my network admin in the company examined with 3 nodes in the company and 5 from outside playing. Well, downstream possibly could be less, it's just an estimate by my admin.

  • I have tested this on a server with 2 players.

The average net usage for the client is:
    down: 31k
    up: 32.4k

So you should alt least be able to play 2 player matches with a modem. more players would causeyou to lose packets now and then, i gues, so the motion would be a little more jerky as more and more players conencts to the server, but I think you should be able to have some fune nonetheless :)

  • There is a guy named Dave on this site who said that he would send me a CD of the Nexuiz download, so I should be able to play within a matter of days! See ya there Tchar, Esteel, Dave, and anyone else who were nice enough to post things here to help a person they don't even know! I feel like I have just made a bunch of new friends, but if what I have heard about Nexuiz is true, that it is a game of competition (a one on one fighting game) then my friends may also be classified as my enimies. See you on the battle field!

  • You are right that nexuiz can be played 1on1, but also 2on2, 4on6 and free for all up to 64 players!

So.. We look forward to seeing you on the servers, and have fun :)

Edit: btw.. there is a new version of nexuiz (version 2.0) coming out in a few days.. so maybe you would like to wait for that before getting the CD sent to you? :)

Indeed, I will wait until Monday so I can supply Dark LInk_Flare with the latest version of Nexuiz. It will be worth the wait.

I answered you wrong! I send 3,407,549 bytes per second and I recieve
13,676,402 bytes per second. However, I don't know how many kilobytes that is.

Erm, that would be 13 Megabytes per second downstream. That's fast enough to download Nexuiz in less than 15 seconds :P
There has to be something wrong with those numbers :)

  • Its not even remotely possible to get those speeds with modem on a regular phone line. Even ADSL isnt that fast, you need SHDSL to get those speeds... So I'm with kadaver.. those numbers are wrong.

  • 13,676,402 (bytes per second) = 104.342667 megabits per second
That is much faster than dial up internet. Are you certain about the numbers and the units?

Edit: I clicked reply when there were no replies yet, The lesson here is to reload pages instead of using back/forward. At least my answer was unique.

  • Yeah, maybe it's wrong, it has changed now, it is 45.2 kbps (kilobytes per second). I think my dell is screwed up or something, but the way I'm getting this info is I'm going to the bottom right of my computer screen :you know where the 2 computers are? I then wait until some info pops up. Can anyone tell me what this is? I think it may be my internet connection status, and I don't know what difference it makes, but I have bellsouth internet service, which is dial-up.

  • First: Please make your sig block a little bit smaller.. its kinda annoying.

    About your questions:
Those two computers on the icon tells the status of your netowrk connection. Thats statu is for the network card in your computer, so any stats there is for all the data that is sent to and from your computer on your local network.

If you use a modem directly connected to your PC, the network status is not interesting information.

If you use a modem connected to some gateway in your local network, the traffic to the internet will only be a part of all the traffic on the network, so that wont be of much help eiter.

The easiest way to find your real speed to the internet is to find a test somewhere on line. I've found one, its in norwegina, but its not hard to use:
    http://www.itavisen.no/services/speedometer/index.php
click "trykk her for å starte testen" to start your test.

It wwill when its done tell you something like
    "IP-adressen 80.202.21.85 lastet ned 1190608 Bytes
på 4.578 sekunder." wich means the IP address 80.x.x.x downloaded xxxxxx bytes in x.xxx seconds

dont doa any other downloading or web viewing while the test is riunning :)

Do not capitalize on this forum, I sent the disk.

I sent it Tuesday of this week because I was given the wrong address "a whole month ago".

    Best Wishes.
