  • Hi I have been playing Nexuiz for a couple weeks and I introduced some friends to it, and we want to LAN but none of us know how. I have never done LAN before (Except for doing it with XBOXs) and I'm pretty new to online gaming on a PC.
So I wanted to know if you could LAN with multiple PC's, and if so step by step instructions on how to do it and what I will need.
I assume I need a Ethernet Hub, but I was wondering if I could use my Linksys router as it has multiple input spots for computers using Ethernet cords.
Also we were planning on playing at our school, but our school refuses to give students access to the internet except on their computers (which retardedly block all USB devices and downloads.
I have plenty of Ethernet cords so that is not an issue.
Also 2 of the computers (including mine) are Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and the others I believe are Windows XP and Vista.
    Thanks for the help,

  • All you really have to do is host a game. Thats it. Your friends should be able to join over the network in game.
Unless you want a dedicated server for the network in which case you will have to refer to here:

If you are hooking computers up, you will probably need a hub/switch. They are pretty cheap to buy anyway. Just remember to buy ethernet cables too. Dunno if it would work over router

If you cant get the game on USB or by download just write it to a CD in order to install it on the machines.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

  • Never mind about the Linksys and Ethernet hub question. Turns out I actually have one, and I'm all set now.

I have a Ethernet Hub and I'm planning on hooking it up with ethernet cords to the other laptops.

But I still don't know how to actually set it up though (as far as with the actual game). Do I need a computer to be the server or is it not needed.
Also how do I tell it to connect to the server. I know how to access the control (with Shift + Esc) and to tell it to connect but I'm not sure what I am supposed to type besides the word connect.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Code: Select all

if the server is public you can connect via the server list too ;)

    Well more correctly its:
    Code: Select all
    connect SERVER_NAME_OR_IP[:PORT]
with [:PORT] meaning you can leave it off if its the default 26000

Well the nexuiz server can run basicly on any computer, the cpu usage is not too high. But many people prefer to use an other computer as server then those that you play on.
Actually if you 'only' want to play with some friends it might be easier to just use the 'multiplayer/create' menu but then the guy that does that always has to play too..
