It's still not win, but it doesn't loose quite as much anymore.

  • Of all things Nexuiz 2.42 doesn't keep crashing at any change in the video settings or when quitting. And that's a good thing.

  • Nice to see a hardware manufacturer actually acknowledging and fixing issues that affect a piece of software which is not only GPL but also not backed by massive corporations with money to make out of it.

  • Well, Nexuiz no longer hangs on exit with the fglrx/catalyst 9.1 release on F8 and F10. The driver was installed from ATI's self-extracting script on F8 and from rpmfusion on F10 as the install script b0rks F10 - I got crap drawn on the screen then a hang. The box is an x86_64 system with a HD3650 card. The exit hang happened on 8.12 and before. fglrx doesn't win as much as pocket howitzers yet, but at least it looses less than being caught cross-dressing by your mother now.

Avoid 2XXX and 3XXX series ATI cards. They (especially the AGP ones) have problems. I learned that the hard way
I have left this website with the rest of the GPL Nexuiz community. You can find us at Xonotic.org

  • Long time no posts, busy trying to break the sound barrier on a motorcycle, downloading 2.5 now on my sh1te old Linux box,so if this game has gone to the dogs I will report back with results, always used 2.3 instead of 2.4 as it ran sweet without issues in FPS and my 128mb card (ATI) didn`t break a sweat even with repository drivers so we will see.
Congratulations on the new release and hope that the ideals of good gaming are not put aside for the flashy effects.
    The Ideals:
    1 quick load up
    2 seamless play
    3 damn good fragging fun.
4 open to all without the need of high end processor, ram and graphics and physx cards.

Iam the Noobiest of all Noobs (:^D>)

P.S Hopefully all repository's will have latest versions when proven as Nexuiz is the best!!.

  • 2.5 release is good!!,it runs smoother than 2.4 and didn't lag, hang or have any other the previous issues of 2.4 with my system ,well done Lee and team.Even tweaked up graphics to 1024x768 and it was smooth, loaded up at normal rate, getting used to different weapons and sounds, but a vast improvement on 2.4 in running of game for me ,kudos all.

  • Encountered one hitch today with kernel failure on 2.5 nexuiz ,running fc9 with latest kernel, report has gone to kerneloops and hopefully the will have a workaround for this issue.
I was playing on dragonslair server and it might have been server related issue as I had no problems previously on 2.5 servers.Got to expect some teething probs,Rome wasn't built in a day.
Did not damage system ,the game just hung and had to reboot, but not into it doing that after 1 minute of gameplay.

  • I've been beating my brains out trying to get 3d working right on FC10 at all.. I have a Toshiba laptop running the ATI 3100 Chipset. The ATI official driver just makes X bomb... Never recovers. I wanted to test Nexuiz on FC10 as well as Windows. Anyone have any tips on how to get my 3100 running on FC10?

  • If you're using version 9.2 of ATI's drivers, they seem to be majorly majorly bugged. Version 9.1 still works for me, and 9.3 is out (haven't tried it though). 9.2 seems to have problems interacting with hardware, it makes X hang when I swich between battery and AC power, and refuses to recognize my card's power management features. Downgrading to 9.1 fixed all this for me.

BTW, if the installer fails to compile the kernel module (due to the gpl incompatable symbols), I found a workaround that doesn't involve recompiling the kernel. For some reason, the installer plops all of the source files in /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod. Go to this folder and open up firegl_public.c as root, and change MODULE_LICENSE to GPL. Then run make.sh, drop down one directory, and run make_install.sh. That last step might need to be done in text only mode, running "init 3" as root should do the trick.

edit: took too long to post my edit, I added in that last paragraph before I saw your post

  • I think it's prolly 9.2.... I just tried downloading it from ATI's site. Have you tried the OpenSource driver for ATI yet? ATI release a bunch of documentation, and the Xorg group has been making a OSS driver for ATI. I couldn't get it to compile though.
