  • In order to get help you're going to actually have to post useful information like your OS, hardware, etc....

Are your video drivers and (if applicable) directX updated?

If you're running linux read this response here: http://www.forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=4504

If you want anyone to help you, you're going to have to give them something to go on though. Lets start with your OS and video hardware.

  • Hello!

Have you downloaded 2.5 yet? There's a new version, 2.5 is the latest.
In case you have 2.5, have you extracted the zip correctly? You can see how the directory structure should look like at the Nexuiz site (www.nexuiz.com) in the faq.
Also, are your graphics drivers up to date?

  • By the way I found this on the faq...

Using Linux (In my case Windows) I only see the map but no players and items

This happens when the engine has trouble to initialize OpenGL. The reasons could be:

the engine could not initialize OpenGL. Please install the latest drivers for your graphic card. You will probably find one for your card there: intel ati nvidia
You do not have permissions needed for 3d acceleration. Usually you need to add yourself to the group video, you can do that via console as root like this: usermod -a -G video YOURUSERNAME. You need to logoff/in afterwards.

...and that's exactly what happends to me!! So I'm going to chek out cos sometimes I got problems with the OpenGL mode when I use Google Earth.

  • Just to let you two know, Nexuiz doesn't use DirectX, it uses OpenGL, so that inso here is useless.

Also, reading on the video card further, I've found that's an integrated card, that has a rather poor performance. I'm sorry to say that, but that card barely hits the minimum system requirements.

I'm not sure if it helps, but you might try this: http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=4508

  • I know :( my desktop has a poor video card. But you know? I'm gonna try the Nexuiz on the laptop, it's new, the problem... ... it will be a little difficult to play, more unconfortable I mean.
In the last case I'll try to get the windows version of the DSN - Damn Small Nexuiz  cos is available for 32-bit Linux only and I don't know how to add the Windows binaries and dlls.
Anyway... :) thanks, at list I know what happends. So folks I'm gonna try with the laptop and let you know later ok? 8)

  • Well there have been a few changes from 2.4.2 to 2.5 in the render engine. And it seems like some 'bad 3d hardware' like some intel and your VIA/S3G dislikes those changes.

Well some things to try: Disable offset mapping in Settings/Effects, disable vertext buffers in Settings/Video. In the same menu disable the Texture compression, disable GLSL for gamma control and maybe finally try disableing the 'Use opengl 2.0 shaders'

Please make sure to test one of those after the other, pressing 'Apply' inbetween and checking if it helped. It will be very useful to know which of those settings helped!

Now something that can be done via the ingame console.. Open it with shift-escape and then enter:
    Code: Select all
    r_coronas_occlusionquery 0
    vid_restart

    and test again..

One other thing you might try but can't be done in game: Right click nexuiz.exe or nexuiz-sdl.exe, click 'create shortcut' and then right click that new shortcut.. choose Properties and to the line 'target', after the .exe add seperated with a space: -notexturenonpoweroftwo
and start the game again (BY DOUBLECLICKING ON THAT SHORTCUT.. so those options are used.. just making sure) to test if that helped.

If you are still having problems then.. hmm, we'll think of something :-)
Again, please try/test only one of those changes at once and then add the next one.

That's not right, considering that Nezuiz uses SDL (Simple Direct Layer). This means on Windows is uses DirectX dude. Try Google.

  • Hi again... :)

First of all to let you know that with the laptop the game runs perfectly...obviously the problem with the desktop it's the video card

Next I do everything that "esteel" told me...step by step. The offset mapping was disable by default I did nothing on that step, next the vertex buffers, play and still the same, next glsl, etc... and the problems continued, so next I went to the shortcut but I could not change it because it gives me the following error: "The name specified in the destination path is invalid. Check if the path and filename are correct"
For sure I did wrong
-First I tried to put it this way...C:\Program files\Nexuiz.exe notexturenonpoweroftwo -then apply=error
    -Then I tried this way...C:\Program files\Nexuiz notexturenonpoweroftwo.exe -then apply= error

I don't know, if I made something silly excuse my inexperience, finally... could you tell me exactly the right way?

Anyway I got the laptop...if you think that the problem with the desktop has no meaning I'll stop, but if you think there is an alternative solution to changing the video card, well I'll be able to test it...

In any case, thank you very much to all of you :D ...

  • Well i'm not totally sure were you installed your nexuiz (and i also do not use windows in private, and at work a non-english version of it.. so maybe i mistranslated the 'target') but i'll try to explain it better.

If you create that shortcut and rightclick and then properties your get a dialog that should say on one line:

    c:/program files/Nexuiz/nexuiz.exe

    just turn it into
    c:/program files/Nexuiz/nexuiz.exe -notexturenonpoweroftwo
    and later then into:
    c:/program files/Nexuiz/nexuiz.exe -notexturenonpoweroftwo -noocclusionquery

  • I'm back, well I did everything like you said and still giving me the following error message when I clic on apply: "The name specified in the destination path is invalid. Check if the path and filename are correct"

    :( I don't know why...any ideas guys?

    Thanks!!

  • Were do you have nexuiz installed? Is that path correct? I just gave you an example..
Really if you create that shortcut everything should be correct... just ADD those two words and make sure there is a space after the .exe ...

  • Ok, I make a screen capture about all the process step by step... now you can see if I'm doing something wrong  you can see the screen capture here:

    http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cQfbhle4P

I was thinking that mybe should paste that words on the original.exe against the shortcut, or mybe on both  I don't know I'm just trying to figure out something... or mybe you just can do this on linux but not on windows ¿?

Well let me know if I'm doing things wrong :? ...I'll be around, thanks for help. :)

  • Hi there, I got news for you, good and bad, the good one is that finally I could make the "thing" with the shortcut, the bad news is that the problem persists, I can only see the map but no players and items. I tried first with the -notexturenonpoweroftwo, play but it doesn't works, and then I tried the other, and both were applied to the two shortcuts and tasted.

Mybe I'll should take a look to the DSN - Damn Small Nexuiz for Windows...I don't know

Well, thank you all once again. :? I'll be around.

  • I must confess i'm out of idea at the moment for what might be the reason that 2.5 does not like your hardware. As i said, there have only been a few rendering related changes. Well the 'most brutal' way is the
    Code: Select all
    -safe
startup paramter. With that it should basicly run for sure but it also disables lots of stuff thats used to make rendering faster. But can you try it? If it does work we can go on from there and find out whats the evil thing :)

  • Ok, I got a lot of bad news, the code -safe it doesn't work for me, I can see the map but no players and items. I've tried this way "....\nexuiz.exe" -safe, then this way "....\nexuiz.exe" -notexturenonpoweroftwo -safe, and then tried "....\nexuiz.exe" -notexturenonpoweroftwo -noocclusionquery -safe, but nothing. The only change I noticed was that the game was more slower. Any ideas?

I'll be around so thanks a lot for your help :)

  • Are you sure you downloaded correctly the game file and that it was uncompressed without any problem ?

Do you see any or lots of errors on the game console while the map is loading?

  • Well the same uncompressed file it's the one that I'm using on the laptop (cos I copy and paste the file) and work's perfect, my problem seems to be my desktop video card. About the console it looks ok to me but I'm not sure if there's something wrong.

I'm gonna make another screen capture for all of you about when I applying the -safe command, and when the game it's loading, and when it starts so you can see what happends and mybe can figure out something, ok...?

I'll be back tomorrow with the vid, so guys thanks again :)

To all, thank you very much and congratulations to the developers because it's an excellent game. Greetings! :D
