  • Seriously whats the point of the Trash section? (define 'Trash')
You could move 75%+ of General Discussion there.
Why you don't just delete stupid shit like "should i kill myself blabla" (Finally someone deleted it after some requests)?
Who wants to read it anyway?
You have to press only 1 button (O-n-e) !
    It will end with Spam.
Let's see if this topic survives 24h :D
I wrote Poll in the name because usually people open (not always read) topics because of the polls, ahahaha rickrolled))

  • One man's trash is another man's treasure.

I 'm with Mirio , I really don't understand the point of the trash area.

I enjoy silly poles and crazy rants. Just delete any spam or anything overly crude.
Let us silly folk be silly!

  • I think I was the first one who reacted to this, like just minutes, if not seconds after it got created. I'm in agreement with Mirio that it's totally unnecessary, I just expressed this on IRC and not on the forums. :P
I didn't really believe I would make an impact anyway. Even though I think this is a bad idea (in my opinion) but the admins can do whatever they wanna do.

  • Trash is the best forum. It's annoying that one can't make new topics in it though "only moderators can make tapes here"

  • The forum makes moderation of the forums more transparent to the users. It helps people learn what is considered inappropriate behavior. The unfortunate side-effect of this is it may cause some members to try and make this a competition... but hehe... with advanced moderation tools in phpbb3, it'd be cool if the mods can write a tool to auto ban someone who's had X number of threads put in the trash for within a specific time period.

  • Why was the "Life is futile and full of crabs" thread deemed inappropriate and trashed.
I guess I just don't get what the General Discussion forum is for.

  • I do think that threads moved to trash should have a moderator note. After all, gentleman call banks and combos in billiards, do they not?

Why should people who post "unpopular" or "stupid" things be banned?

  • Trash is for threads considered point/sense/meaning-less by the admins.. also thread in here will get deleted automatically after a certain time without responses. It will help admins keep the forum a clean and fun place.
Its a forum about Nexuiz after all and not a place to bother people with nonsense.

I didn't elaborate this idea too much, but how feasible it could be to disallow posting from people using open http proxies ?

  • I think that making a sort of portscan on predefined ports (e.g: 80, 1080, 8080) could be a good start, of course the results of these scans (aka the blacklist) should be cached. I've spent about two minutes on google and found something like this but for irc. Maybe doing this check only when a post is received from users with less than, say 20 posts, should do the trick.

  • Besides its not a good idea to block tor nodes and such, because tor is just gonna get bigger and people are going to use it more. After all a growing list of country's, snoop on their citizens being on the internets. So its a bad message.

  • As for the trash subforum: it allows for a more aggressive policy against trolls. Threads moved there are not deleted, so moving a thread there is not comparable to censorship.

Basically, it allows moving a thread out of the normal forums with a much better conscience than if it would be deleted and some other people would think it wasn't bad enough for deletion yet.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I get around irc servers that do that. Why even bother?
Most IRC servers have that, I just go and get proxies that don't make the cut :).

  • Idea: if you like working on ways to auto-ban people, and like working on nexuiz, then (rather than wasting your time working on a forum banning method) work on a method of heuristic banning (that individual servers can use) for nexuiz. Like you'd have the server take statistics on someone you want to ban (how often they use weapon x, y, z, how often they bunny hop, what their talking is like, etc), then you have the server auto ban anyone who conforms to that hureristic, and send a mocking message to them.

When I was still thinking this subforum was for Mikee's rants only, I liked the idea of it. But now there are already threads being moved here (4m's general spam thread for example) that would previously NEVER have been deleted I'm not so sure anymore.

    1. If the 'better conscience' means faster locking/deletion, do you really consider this a good thing and why?
    2. Will every thread that derails into post-a-silly-pic now be moved here? I have always considered this a charming feature of this forum and would hate to see it go.

  • 4m's thread was clearly a parody on mikee's lost job thread... so they belong in the same place to me.

Or did I misjudge it? Another advantage of the trash subforum is that threads can not just moved into it, but also moved out of it if the decision was a mistake.

  • It was kind of a "parody", but with a positive touch to it; sort of a "heads-up", in the sense of "been there, done that". (lol get it? In the aforementioned thread i wrote "lift your head up".... I COMMAND YOU TO LAUGH!)

And i do think spam belongs in the /bin. Or the frying pan.

  • I actually did loose my job (I was fired from my job).
Alpha prayed that I always have (at most) a terrible minimum wage job and never anything better because he believes people who are not pro-women's rights should be punished (this is what he stated).

What? Just because of one troll post the whole thread should be moved to trash? Much better to delete that post instead. (If this was indeed what you meant with this statement)
Just because trash exists doesn't mean every little thing should be moved there. Keep in mind, as Div stated, it's a 'second chance' for threads that would have been deleted locked.

I see no reason to delete or lock this thread.
