  • I would like to play quake1 on darkplaces. I have played glquake and tenebrae.
Last time I tried quake1 in wine, there was severe flickering.

    How?

And yes, Watchmen is the best graphic novel ever. Black Hole is quite nice too.

  • copy nexuiz.exe to your quake folder, up one level from id1, and rename the exe to something.exe the walls will be white though, at least on my machine.

Firstly, kononmat appears to be running Linux. Let's do things natively with Darkplaces under Linux.

Secondly, I wouldn't directly use the Nexuiz engine to do this, you can do but it means you have to specify -game id1. You can use the engine sourcecode and just rebuild the stock Darkplaces out of it.

Or, better still, download the latest source code from icculus.org as Ronan suggested.

There are a number of confusions with running under Linux. Make sure your data directory is id1/ not ID1/ as Linux is case sensitive like any good OS. All trouble shooting issues relating to Nexuiz are also relevant to Darkplaces so this forum is a good place to look for ideas.

  • I got 2 .pak files from fabzor. I downloaded the darkplaces engine by myself. I followed the instructions of darkplaces.txt and got it working. If you want links, I can give you them.

  • No, you can use nexuiz-glx binary for Quake easily.

First, you need all the original pak files.
second, like Ed told you, make sure you out them under "id1" . id1 is the same as "data" for Nexuiz.
Third: pick your favorite nexuiz binary, and simply rename it to "darkplaces". You don't need to do anything else, darkplaces will automatically find everything.

Yeah, we wouldn't want to recommend people go to Warez sites, that way they might download a cracked copy of Nexuiz! Yes, if you're new to Nexuiz, you can download a cracked copy of Nexuiz, along with cracked copies of pretty much any open source software, more than likely with malware in them. Rather flatteringly (and puzzingly) people have even cracked software I've released under the GPL.

  • It works and looks great!
I made a quake/ folder and put the nexuiz-linux-x86_64-glx and paks in a id folder there. It woudnt play without the -game id1. It reads my ~/.nexuiz/data/ config. I'll put another config.cfg in quake/ and see if that gets read. I have no icons for the weapons, health or armour. I dont remember rotweilers dying of one slash of the axe on nightmare skill, right? Two shots for a grunt means I wont run out of ammo like I sometimes did. Ogres are still thick-skinned, but they are smaller than i remember. If I press the key for rl before I pick it up, I get every weapon with full ammo.

Quake is so pretty (except the shambler bolts that look smaller now) and feels much better. It's alot easier with air control, maybe too easy. I took a screenie of a fiend fighting an ogre.

Maybe I'll try with a pure darkplaces engine. Thanks, if I knew it was this easy I would have done it long ago.
**EDIT** ====Contains Spoiler==== I used darkplaces and it worked great. If I could get my (smaller cyan) xhair on q1 there's no stopping me from telefragging Shub-Niggurath. **EDIT**

That's going to be the problem. The config will be a bit of a mess from that, this is why I suggested getting the stock Darkplaces as it'll be easier to setup.

As for 9 giving all weapons, recall that impulse 9 in Quake gives you everything, strange as impulse is intended for weapon slots and there is also give all. In Nexuiz impulse 9 is used for the 9th weapon slot.
