  • alpha (?) started a thread about the forum signature size limit, but it got quite messy and subsequently deleted (?)...
Yet, I'm affected by this too, and would like to restart a constructive discussion.

The problem is that there is not enough space for a (normal) member to include more than about 3 links. (My current sig is about 2 letters from the limit, I can't write CyberParcour03)

I think there have been 3 possible solutions mentioned:

    1. Bigger signature size limit
    Simple, but could be problematic.

    2. Different counting system (not counting BBCode for example)
Probably difficult to implement, but solves the link problem.

    3. Providing a text field (or moving the sig) on the profile page, with a high (or no) size limit.
My favourite solution. With this, signatures could be completely deactivated, making the forum less cluttered, while members still can write useful or useless stuff for the interested to read.

In any case, shouldn't there be a signature deactivation option in the preferences?

  • I've seen some sites implement a CSS signature limit.
The size would be virtually unlimited (still limited eh, but to 1000-ish, whatever), but the size in pixels would be limited.

This sounds like a solution too. And it would avoid big pictures in signatures as well.

Meanwhile, you could make some kind of google page, whatever, and link to this from your signature. Or use tinyurls, but I know how some people (including myself) don't want to blindly click on tinyurls links :P
    Meh.
