  • I accidentally typed A: but wanted to go to my network drive S:, and am now getting this error:

Not ready error reading drive A:
    Abort, Retry, Fail?

    What should I do?

When I do "Abort", the message comes again.
When I do "Retry", the message comes again.
When I do "Fail", it tells me something about current drive not valid, and when I hit enter, the message comes again.

    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • It was lost in translation ;) the German text of that message can be translated to Ignore or Skip, but not to Fail.

    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • Okay, the poll is quite obvious... I now have the next problem.

    It shows:

Current drive is no longer valid>

    What should I type there?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • It would appear that the system is confused as to the validity of the drive. The offending drive must be exposed to heavy impact damage. The ideal tool for this is a TBM at least ten metres in diameter, but a sledge hammer or a large SDS+ drill can be used, though this will make the process a little more time consuming. After this the drive will indeed be "no longer valid", and the system should operate without presenting this error message. Let us know how you get on.
