Well.. since the creation of the universe, at least in a scientific perspective, everything has cooled down and everything has strived for greater complexity. Galaxy's, the chemical elements, created in the center of stars, scattered across space when they go POOF!
How those elements later on began to gather in greater density around other younger stars, which some how ended up creating everything in between asteriods --> planets --> atmosphere --> climate --> amino acids --> proteins --> nucleic acids --> dna --> single celled organisms --> multi celled organisms --> badgers --> mankind --> linux, nexuiz, lolcatz, beer, sliced bread, internets, dwarf pr0n. Think of it as tossing a loaf of bread in a pool with a fat lady in it. That is the universe we live in.

As you clearly see, everything strives towards a greater complexity. I do agree that life is utterly totally meaningless, since in the greater sense, for where are we? Living not even on a speck of dust in the milky way galaxy. The lack of development, realising we are one species, on one planet in the sol system. Rather than putting our energy on the strife towards the stars. We still have stuff like "countries, money, war" when we live not even on a atom between the grains of sand in the deserts and beaches of earth, when all that sand don't cover all the stars in the universe. So mankind have a long journey ahead. All this talk about mankind being insignificant, is great, since this gives us as insignificant parts of mankind freedom. However since the dawning of whacks, pointing, grunts, drawings, internets one single individual have a greater chance of making a great difference. I hope mankind will find its way to the understanding of 42. In the meantime:

Don't ask me, there probably isn't a point more than preserving it for no good reason. But that's the scientific (or nature way of life). But ultimately, in the grand scheme, it doesn't matter if you preserve your species or not.

Then if people simply live for the sake of living, death sounds as a liberation and not some sort of ultimate evil.

Life is meaningless. But that's kinda good!

Indeed. I'm incorrect.

If there is any meaning in life, we won't find it. (or at least a whole horde of philosophers didn't find it yet)
So, if we can't find it (or it's most likely simply not there), why shouldn't we give our life a meaning by doing something with our time?
Helping others, contributing to Nexuiz and so on.
