  • I always liked the 'Das Keyboard' with its black keys... but i couldn't get one cause there is no mac version. So i decided to do it myself, with a friend of mine who's a car painter :)

hard work, about 12 hours for 2 persons... see the result :) ;) :

  • Man, that's hardc0re.

I can handle everything except for those symbols you get from SHIFT+numbers.

  • You could have just bought one.
Das Keyboard II has Win, Mac and Linux support.
    Good job though :D

What I really want is a "Deck Legend LED-Backlit Keyboard"
Looks good and performs even better. Check this out...it supports 240 characters per second!!!!!
And the cherry on top, it looks very minimalist. Not like a piece of borg technology.

  • All i need is a keyboard that can handle several keys pressed at once and NOT only on the left side. I do not use wasd or esdf for movment but uhjk and i have not found a single keyboard that does not give problems.. The thing is most keyboard work fine with the first two key configs but i like uhjk more. For example if i press uk (forward, right) i can't switch to the nexgun (i) or uh (forward, left) and i can't switch to the rocketlauncher (y or z on german keyboards..).
And i do not want to buy a keyboard, try it out and give it back if it does not work. Thats not a big problem here but i do not want to try out 10 different keyboards :)

I've gotten the same problem now.

I maneuver with wasd, laser on q nex on e RL on c, but now I've put the electro on x (right under s), and I cant press x and two of the maneuver keys at the same time :/

  • Yeah you have a bad keyboard :) It seems what we want is "full feature n-key rollover". With that a keyboard should be able to recognice each single key. After some googeling it seems most keyboard producers no longer support this as its harder to do. You need a diode for each of the keys which costs more money. I have found a small list here: http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p ... ostcount=1
The saitek keyboard i have is listed as 5-key rollover. But as i can't even press 3 keys i guess its not on the whole keyboard :(. On that list are only 3 full rollover keyboards and the raptor is non standard layout which i do not like. Deck now also has a 105 keys keyboard but i can't find it anywere to buy in germany. So maybe i'll test the logitech g15.

  • I got my self the g15 and i must say wow.. sofar all the key combinations work fine and its a fine keyboard in general. But its a bit bigger then my old keyboard so i could need more space on my desk.
And there seems to be linux applications to make the extra keys and the display work :)

  • g15 is nice but a bit pricey as well as borg looking.
I'v tested it out but i just can't stand to look at it. Works like a beauty though.

  • Its not cheap but there are more expensive keyboards available. I have to get used to those keys to the left.. well they seem rather useless in games anyway. Might use them to start some programs or something :)
But i like the layout and design..
