We've wanted to update to phpbb 3 for a while now but there were a few obstacles along the way. We've worked out everything KNOWN that we can and we believe we're ready to do the upgrade which has a TENTATIVE DATE OF ~1-2 weeks from today. That means, we want to upgrade this forum system by sometime between December 1st-8th.

THE BIGGEST REASON YOU SHOULD CARE

is...

ALL USER PASSWORDS WILL BE RESET

due to a different algorithm, all accounts will go into password reset mode


THIS MEANS YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR PROFILE ASAP




Admins will be available after the upgrade to help update email addresses for those of you who miss the window... but DO NOT TRY AND USE THIS AS A PRIMARY METHOD.

Be responsible and make sure you're ready for this upgrade to safe us time and help us help you and help the community by making this upgrade go as smoothly as possible.

Interesting. I wonder how many people put in fake email addresses.

I receive emails all the time from the forums, so I should be good

I think I didn't undersant very well what users should do: our password will change? And new password will be delivered by mail? This is the problem?

I think what it means is that password will be reseted and in order to be able to reset your password, Alientrap must know your good email adress. am i right ?

The algorithm for storing passwords is more secure in phpbb 3, so the old ones need to be reset.

Yay for phpbb3... hope the upgrade goes well. The email address in my account is my main email I use all the time, so I guess I'm ok and theres nothing else I need to do right?

Also, I know the admins of this forum are very experienced people... but if I may offer some advice make sure to keep a lot of backups in as many forms as possible. I've had friends who had to revert forums or even lost them due to not keeping backups safely... and that just happened to me yesterday with a forum I own

Yay, the upgrade seems to have passed. My password was not reset and I got no email notifications either, so I guess everything is good

This was a catch-all. Some accounts might not have been so lucky and might require a reset.

But yes, the upgrade does seem to have gone smoothly

Okay am I right here for a complaint or request here. I can't get used to it and I think it's quite annoying, and I cannot see the sense in the fact that I automatically return to the subforum I just marked as 'all topics read'.

Is there any way to change it back to normal, where you are referred to the board index? Pleeeez?

I would also like to ask a question... in the last version of the board it was enough to click on the link that showed me unread posts, then click just on the threads I was interested in, and then a few hours later when logging in again and clicking "show unread posts" link again it wouldn't show me threads again that I was not interested in in the first place (as long as these didn't have any new posts in it, of course).

But now I actually have to click on "unread posts" and then mark all forums as read manually to get the same effect, which is annoying. If I would not click on the "mark all forums read" link, I would still see all those threads from the last session that I didn't click on in the last session and that didn't have any new posts since then either.

Am I doing something wrong?

Maybe.. for me the option "stay logged in" does not really work. So when i click on "new posts" it shows me a LOT of old threads.. but when i click on login, do login and then click on "new posts" it works like a charm.
