  • I find the default layout CA Black rather unreadable personally and have switched to good old trusty prosilver. I'm sure others have the same gripe.

  • I'm finding CA Black a bit unreadable as well, but it's probably just a matter of getting used to it :)
It looks really nice though, good upgrade.

  • I like the new style quite a bit, but I miss the alientrap icons and etc... I cannot tell what state a thread is in at the moment, the icons for it right now are fairly annoying... A key/help page for this would be nice.

I had a private message, when I tried to get it, PHP error appeared instead of message text: "*Parse error*: syntax error, unexpected $end in */home/alientrap/domains/alientrap.org/public_html/forum/cache/tpl_ca-black_ucp_pm_message_header.html.php* on line *38*".

They are the arms of search engines. They archive pages, update search databases and what not. I think they can be disabled actually but meh.

To ensure that Spiders and crawlers (how the search engines index there information) dont effect post counts, views etc etc they have special users designed for them,
when they come onto the forum they have an optimized version for themselves and cannot affect statistics on your board... when you see one of these in your forum the actuall bot is indexing you site, and for admins you can see how many and how frequently they visit :)

This complaint is made nearly every time I've ever changed a forum theme. Regardless, I plan on integrating a legend and updating the icons soon.

This may be true, but this time it's really confusing, more than ever IMO. The last theme was a bit confusing at first mostly because the 'new' posts icon wasn't much more visible than the other. Those with certain darker monitors would have a hard time seeing that (mine was rather dark till I got this I have now).
Well, thanks for taking a look at it though!

In my Opinion everythings fine, buttons, look etc its common sense understanding what the icons mean, well done good job, its all fine in my eyes :)

  • Um, it wasn't the 'post reply' and such buttons I meant. I meant the icons for thread status (new posts, old threads, big threads which are more than 1 page) etc. which are quite confusing.

    Like this:
    Image
I have absolutely no idea why the two icons for the threads 'Another song' and 'ODE implementation' are different. Both have 2 pages, almost the same amount of views, none of them stickied... so why?
At a first glance it's also hard to see the status, you really have to stop and look carefully on the icons to see what kind of icon it is. Because the 'square' one for the stickys are round a bit it looks round if you don't look carefully enough.
IMO, it shouldn't be that hard to identify the status of threads.

Good for you. But I have a very hard time seeing the difference unless I stare at the screen for a few seconds. However, do you know why those two icons for what I can see the same types of threads are different?
At least, if these icons are not going to change make the other theme the default one. This whole theme is very good and more nicer than the other one, it's just those icons...

EDIT: Just noticed there are yet even more different icons for the same types of threads:
    Image

Why? Seriously... why are there different icons for same types of threads? I'll tell you... to confuse the hell out of people.

EDIT2: This is how many icons there is:
    Image
Seriously, why so many.. whole whopping 13(I may even have missed some)? You need just 5 icons...
    1. New post in thread.
    2. No posts in thread.
    3. Stickied, new post.
    4. Stickied, no post.
    5. Locked.

This is not 'common sense' and you are not a 'retard' if you don't understand these. Them being so similar doesn't help to ease the confusion either.

  • I understand what icons you meant. I just haven't gotten around to replacing them. I took similar buttons from another variation of this theme and blended them in. I'm going step by step.

I'll get to those icons when I can, that's going to be more of a process.

  • I totally agree with ai. Far to many icons with far to little distinction. For me the theme is okish, but far from great (both function and looks, the old zeroSpace one worked far better for me).
