Make a backup now. HD's should neither purr nor meow :D It's a sign of possible failure in the near future..
He can talk the talk, but can he caulk the caulk?

  • Well i did a little research and apparently the hitachi drive does diagnostic scan every 10 minutes that sounds like a cat's meow

There is supposed to be a "meow free firmware" , I don't think I'll bother its not that loud with the case closed

I did back it up just in case

Great.. I was more thinking of the whirring sounds that appear/disappear without apparent system and might sound like meows to some ears, too. If there's a known reason in your case, be glad that you got into the habit of making backups _before_ failure..

I approve of the humor in this thread, but due to extraordinary circumstances can not take part in it.. Continue..

  • Great, the Furry Computer Hardware Federation is taking over; The macbook of my sister moos, your neighbours' HD meows and the power supply of the external Hitachi drive i bought recently (yay coincidence!) generates a high-pitched sound which, apparently, only i can hear. A bat, i assume.

  • The fans on one of the computers I fixed earlier sounded like birds if that counts for anything.. (Perhaps your meowing hard drive wants to eat the computer with the chirping fans? Maybe we can arrange a play date?)
