Via onboard graphics drivers for Linux

Post anything on anything here

  • My parents have just bought a really cheap laptop for he bargain price of £250. It came with Ubuntu but I've put Mandriva on it as that's what I'm used to.

The only bit of hardware that's been a bit of a problem is the graphics chip. I've got the Xorg driver running and as expected there's no 3D hardware acceleration. Realistically this machines never going to get up to much in Nexuiz but it would be nice to get it working anyway.

So, has anyone any experience in drivers for Via onboard graphics. openchrome.org lists a number of different drivers:

Any experience with any of those?

  • Bump!

With a switch to Sabayon Linux, it now gives something resembling OpenGL through Mesa. Glxgears gives 365fps, nothing cool about that. Nexuiz does run, although when I say run, I've seen glaciers run faster than that. 0.45fps even on low.cfg at 640x480x16, it would probably match divVerents if the settings were higher:

So yes, Via's onboard graphics are hopeless.
    Laters losers.
