I have just upgraded from nexuiz2.0 to nexuiz.2.1 and I would like to put all the downloaded content (the dlcache) to be available for both version without having to copy it (duplicate it).

As an old user of amiga and unix based OSes, i was wondering how I create a symbolic link in a windows (NTFS) filesystem.

I found something called "create shortcut" but that doesnt seem to be a real symlink, just some addon on top of the filesystem.

Windows shortcuts are rubbish. I can see a possible way round it though: NTFS mountpoints. NT can mount drives to appear as a directory as in 'nix. Set up a partition, put the data on it, then mount it in both gamedirs.

But that works only for volumes afaik, it's impossibe to mount one folder into another like 'mount --bind' on linux.

Yes, it's volumes only which is why I've suggested he creates a partition. It's a possible way round, albeit a rather silly one.

There is also subst command but only for drives. To create virtual drive with data from some directory. Or can't you have nexuiz(win) on one drive with data(dlcache), and only in unix create symlinks to it?

You could also have the data with symlinks set up on a Linux partition and then (via some system that might not work) mount that partition under Windows.

This tool allows you to create softlinks on win2k and upwards when using ntfs. You could link a maps directory into your Nexuiz dir and start nexuiz like: nexuiz.exe -game maps -game data then it will load files from both directories but thanks to the -game data (must be the last -game thing) it also works online..
