  • Two long, action-packed years have passed. Nexuiz fans witnessed several releases, each of them a major improvement to the previous ones. Now, exactly two years after the first public release, you can be part of a new chapter in the history of Nexuiz. Today we proudly announce Nexuiz 2.3 to the world!

While Nexuiz has improved in all areas, it still stays true to its mission to bring deathmatch back to the basics, with perfect weapon balancing and fast paced action. The engine received a massive overhaul, resulting in a huge performance increase in the 50-500% range and much more smoother netplay. It runs faster, renders more beautiful, introduces sharper effects and brings you even closer to the action than ever before. Taking advantage of the improved engine, Alientrap and contributors added new maps, retouched and rebalanced the guns and reworked most texturing effects. The new maps, textures and general additions to Nexuiz have almost tripled the file size since 1.0 and almost doubled it since the last release 2.2.3.

Nexuix 2.3 brings along a new way for gamers to compete with each other and measure their skills: the new team mode 'Keyhunt'. Moreover, the online experience is enhanced by the new netcode, which also feels safer as 2.3 sports an anti-wallhack function. The offline singleplayer campaign offers improved, more human-like bots while the new maps add a fresh thrill to both offline and online play. For a totally original way to experience Nexuiz we created 'Nexuiz Pro', a server side mod that drastically changes the physics and weapons. Do not shy away from its name: it's just as fun for the young and old, for the new and experienced players.

To celebrate the new release we started an official Nexuiz tourney today. Register and sign up here: http://planetnexuiz.com/tourney/?sid=4 The tourney commences after signup close-down, so use the time left to brush up your skills, because you will need it! If you want to test your abilities before the tourney take a look at the Nexuiz ladder: http://planetnexuiz.com/ladder To get in contact with players you can also use the official Nexuiz forum: http://forums.alientrap.local or meet some via IRC: irc://irc.quakenet.org/#nexuiz

A big Thank You goes to all the people that helped us to test and improve this release.

    Come and get it.

  • I took the liberty of editing the Wikipedia entry about Nexuiz to reflect the new release.

IMHO it would be a good idea to post newer screenshots on Wikipedia, displaying the eye candy new to v. 2.3.

  • re. Me back. I am quite disappointed for one thing: the old crappy rocket launcher model is still default. What's the damn reason for not including the fine weapon model Morphed created? I really don't understand why you keep holding on the old model :?

Or put more simply: Some people (including me) think the new one looks really bad, the old one doesn't look good but it doesn't look bad either.

  • Well, actually I already sensed what Havoc said to be the true reason

For me Morphed's model was more usable for the main reason that it didn't take you such a big part of the whole screen, and thats the reason why the current model keeps sucking for me (amongst not really such a few ppl). Iirc that was the major voice in that thread where Morphed introduced his new model, nevermind...

  • I don't seem to see a difference performance wise, maybe a little it less lagging but that's about it. I like some of the new features like autorecording demos, though. I think it's alot better then 2.3 though, it shows.

  • I could be wrong, but maybe you use a config.cfg copied from an older version? I did that when testing the beta until esteel gave me the hint to create a completely new one, which solved that problem immediately.

  • It did? Hmm the old configs should be (mostly) compatible, but yeah its easy to test, just rename config.cfg or move to save place and try again..

Hmm and some use cl_maxfps to limit the fps to a maximum number.. then it will be hard to notice an increase unless you old fps were below that limit :)

Actually, I like the new one... but it totally breaks when enabling offsetmapping. Whether it is an engine bug or a model bug I don't care, it just doesn't work and thus can't be used.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Happy birthday nexuiz. I had the good luck to discover this game while browsing for linux games on a whim exactly one day after it was released, so this is also two years of my playing FPSs. Nice to see the game get the long-awaited performance boost it needed. I can't wait to play it on a newer card as well.

  • Well you all are still welcome to spread the word though.. I somehow get the feeling that this release is getting quite low attention in general even though i really has some groundbreaking changes in FPS and netcode now.
