  • Thanks to -z- the Nexuiz project now has a new website, along with a new media page and video showing off the next release.
Scheduled to be released in the next few weeks, Nexuiz 2.4 will include an entirely new menu system, new content such as three new weapons models and two maps, and new effects for explosions and water/slime reflections. The release's memory usage has been reduced, and numerous optimizations and new features have been added. You can view a complete list of changes on our development wiki here.

There have also been many Nexuiz fan websites opened since the last release:
NexuizNinjaz - A fan site dedicated to teaching the ways of Nexuiz Ninjaz, with tutorial videos and forum
Nexuiz.info - Complete list of Nexuiz related links.
OUNS - Unofficial Nexuiz wiki for players.
    PlanetNexuiz.de - A complete German fan site.

  • I noticed that in recent svn builds, assault and onslaught aren't part of the menu yet. Is there going to be official support for them in the final release (mostly just in the way of maps) or is it going to be held off on until community maps become more abundant?

  • Oh, the new website for sure is much nicer than the old one. I assume it'll be a lot more successful to get interested people into actually downloading the game.

However, the video is just too big. I don't mean the size its displayed, I mean its file size. 43 MB for 75 seconds of video, that's roughly half a meg per second! No usual pipe will be able to stream that.

  • That video player doesn't seem to buffer very well. There's no buffering status (like on youtube, etc). Also, when it gets to the end of the buffered video, it just jumps back to the beginning screen.

Vermeulen, I'd like to know what graphics settings you're using to make the video with that high of graphic detail. I used ultimate.cfg and turned on highest settings that I could find, and even played with the bump map cvar. I can't seem to get that level of quality in my video output.

  • The audio of that clip gets out of sync for me quite soon, that's not good.

Well, the ONS mode needs a little more work afaik. Sounds, an explosion effect for the generator, and at the end the game currently just stops, but imo the players should be able to see the generator exploding.
And it's really better with some CSQC enhancements, like a minimap, which cannot be included in 2.4, although 2.4 is already compatible, but 2.3 isn't, but you should be able to play on SVN servers using a 2.4 client AND csqc running :)

I have to agree. The video is not watchable here - Firefox under linux.
I had to download it to be able to watch. This has to be changed.

  • Well, the video did play smoothly for me... For 4 seconds, then it just stopped :/ (linux/flash 9.0 r115)
I'd suggest putting a link for an avi-version beneath the video, esp. since flash isn't available on all platforms Nexuiz supports...

  • I have lowered the bitrate of the video for smoother playback as well as providing a download link for an h264 version below. Enjoy!

  • Overall very nice (I can only repeat myself, really).

I wonder if we should offer the Q3 map pack in such an "aggressive" way. The map pack needs another revision to not interfere with the upcoming 2.4 version and at least until this is finished I'd suggest to not offer the map pack as if it was an official Nexuiz add-on.

  • Z, the new website design looks great, but I have a couple of suggestions. First, I'd resize the logo in the upper left, so it's the same height as the Nexuiz banner right beside it. Second, adding gradients to the text in the images will make the whole site feel more dynamic, and it's a very quick fix if you still have the source images. The last suggestion is to recode the forum's theme to make it match either the main site or the Alientrap site. Great work, regardless.

Also, I dunno if the New Pollution forums/wiki is based around Nexuiz enough to be considered a "Nexuiz website," but I wouldn't object if it was added to the list of related websites.

  • When i click the Forum link on the new front page I go to a page where only the Nexuiz related forums are visible, it took me a while to figure out there was more under the small arrows ;) Is this done not to confuse the newest of users ?

It is done to not overwhelm the new users. There was conversation of maybe expanding the ladder forums as well but it was decided they are not active enough yet and arrows would do well for the time being.

The last three links, forum, ladder and tournament are external links. I made them open in new windows under the assumption most people are using a tabbed browser. Tabbed browsers should open new windows (target="_blank") in a new tab.
