  • I just wanted to express my gratitude to the devs and the community for a great game :D

    "Needless" to say, I love 2.5! :D
How smooth the game feel and the extra aircontrol with the new physics.

Yeah, that would be a great idea to have a torrent link on the download page or, maybe even on the frontpage directly under the "Mirrors" link?

Btw, the .deb's are out on http://www.getdeb.net/app/Nexuiz !

I talked to kojn yesterday, to me he said he got improvements from 2.5 (though he got some losses with the beta version that was released)

I guess people that really get less fps should try to disable the use of lightmaps.. those got redone and are much bigger now (creating much cripser and clearer static shadows!)

  • For me performance abt the same in 2.4.2 and 2.5. slightly less in 2.5 with same gfx settings, but with all the new higher quality content that's no surprise.

Also to keep in mind: beta / demo release are usually debug builds. These can be significantly slower then release, specially for local games (in my experience).

  • Can you believe it? I didn't even have time to as much as download 2.5 up to now. Darn real life keeps getting in my way! Though I guess it's always good to have that real life around... never mind. Anyway, I would like say thank you to all of you that made this game what it is, as I loved the SVN version already. Great job, and thank you for your precious spare time!

Oh, and I like the new forum theme. 8)

  • This is non fixable for plenty of players. Game can run on 200fps at one point and then goes down to 3 at other, therefore it's not possible to hit anyone, especially with nex, or to make reliable jumps either.

As I said, you need to raise hardware requirements so that players shouldn't have false hopes.

Of course, game looks much much much better now. Congrats for all developers with great release.

  • Basicly i doubt you tried much to fix this so far.. Rendering wise there have only been a few changes from 2.4.2 to 2.5 and only a few of those MIGHT give less FPS. I think all of those can be tuned back to what was used in 2.4.2. Given a 'perfect' system (non-crappy drivers and such) 2.5 should in no way be slower then 2.4.2.. If it is it should be some gfx card, driver or what ever that gives less fps. You/we just have to find out what it is that your system does not like..

  • the only thing we could do to nex now is add loads of eye candy, like in this screenies

    Image

    Image

and make it beat the living hell out of gears of war 3

no really the only thing i would consider changing is phisics, like newton (its really good). I would really like a more destructible environment, like boxes flying around when explosion is near and damage effects to stuff, i would love ragdoll physics so you can play soccer/golf with the heads of people you have killed.
    Everything else is spotless

also you know we could redo the maps and models, into very high polygon (1 mil for map) and then bake them into low polygon.

    More shaders.

Oh and i wouldn't mind Parallax Occlusion Mapping

The wishlist is pretty short cause you are great guys![/img]
I only made isotromic games, websites an unfinishe flash game!

  • To my shame, I was absent when the new version was launched. I finally downloaded and am trying it out. Nice job, guys! One of my favourite games just hit 2.5 :D .

Now I should go find that Port-O-Launch.

  • Hi. I've registered to write this post. And on first, I'd tell I'm sorry for my English.

I'm not satisfied with the new version. The first thing, which isn't nice for me, is a game menu - it's similliar to this from 2.4.2 and I think, that ooooold game menu (with large buttons on top) was better. Tabs... aren't nice in my opinion. Exactly it doesn't refers to this version, but last versions generally.

Next - the scoreboard is now more complicated and less clear (now I'd please you to tell me how it's "adjustable"). Typical user is interested only on his score - at least in my case. And thing connected with score - the way, how it is calculated. Negatively points added with loosing flag is terribly stupid idea. I don't know, is this configured by server config or the game - de facto, it've appeared for me with the 2.5 version. Flag carieer gameplay is now more protective, camper-style. Less pleasure from playing. A while of inattention and from top you are on bottom of scoreboard.

And... new models. De gustibus non est disputandum. For me they are just ugly. Old electro was much better.

The last thing is capacity. Sometimes me FPS gets down to ~30 FPS from ~150 on "Normal" effect settings. Hardware: 7600GT, Intel C2D E4300 ~2ghz, 1 GB ram.

Sorry guys for the critisizm of your work. I hope you consider it constructive.

  • Actually the new menu (system) is much better as it allows for easily done skins, its WAY faster to load/startup, its easier to adjust and has much more goodies then the old one and its way harder to get to its limits (the old one was hitting limits here and there..)
And actually the new menu HAS tabs once to switch to one of the tree main screens.. I don't get the rant about the missing tabs there!

On the same note.. why do you care for the scores? Only the CAPS win the game.. And the negative scores make it possible to see what teammate keeps grabbing and LOSSING the flag.. which in the long run is propably bad for the team in general.

You can adjust the scoreboard via the variable 'sbar_columns' and change it on the fly with the command 'sbar_columns_set' You can get some help text on how to set/adjust those with the command 'sbar_columns_help' .. i never tried that much, i just activate ALL info there is with 'sbar_columns_set all'

As for protecting the flag carrier.. I think thats good because protecting the flag carrier should be part of CTF.. however on good maps its basicly impossible to do that via camping, one has to go with the flag carrier and >I< think thats good as its TEAMPLAY!

The score-style is setable on the server and there are several to choose from, but admins hardly change such defaults (i know there are a few servers) but i really do not see what it would be good for? Do you really care so much about your position on the scoreboard or about a good match?

The models.. well thats taste. I for one LOVE the new electro. It has an slick and look look and the model itself IS MUCH better done then the old one. (technically speaking) but if you simply do not like it.. well bad luck i guess :-)

As for the FPS.. try disabling the light maps in the settings/ effects (or video) menu. That should help getting the old fps back.

  • The same thing I said about negative scores using as default scoring rule. You get the worst score in your team because you might be the only one who actually tries to play (even below other teammates who get 1 point in total) just because you actually tried to capture enemy flag.

  • Yeah, I agree with you bts and Alien. I too think it's kinda dumb that you lose points when dropping the flag. Getting punished for trying to play the game and doing the right thing is not such a good thing. But the upside is that it ultimately doesn't affect the main score as only caps count. But still, it's kind of a mixed feeling when your team won but half of your teammates have negative scores.

The models is, as esteel put it, a general taste thing. I kinda like them although Electro (which many things is the best looking model) is not my favorite, my favorite is Hagar. :) And overall I think all these look better than the previews ones, with maybe the exception of Electro where I think the old one looked better. The old one had style in my opinion, this new one is too generic and too similar to other games weapons. But, the new models also do have some technical aspects to them, better optimized, better position and in all, functioning better.

The scoreboard however I believe is one of the best things in 2.5. It's looking really good with various info which many players are interested in, not just how many frags they made. The old scoreboard also made it rather difficult to locate your nick there while this new one highlights you which is great and quick to notice. I'm actually surprised that people would find the older one better.

I can't comment much on the menu however. I bet they had their reasons in doing as they did, I myself don't really mind. For me it's easy to find stuff and it's a bit different from other games. But, if you don't like tabs then you must dislike most of the newer browsers, or? :P

    Cheers.
