  • I'm happy to announce in the name of the FFS ( FragFests Servers) Team, the semy-official weekly fragging events, the:

    NEXUIZ FRAGFESTS!

    What's this all about?

Frag Fests (from now FF) are organised events, where people from the Nexuiz community get together at the same time on the same servers, just to play together and have fun, regardless of sub-communities, clans, etc. Keeping the timezone oddness of the Earth in mind, there'll be servers set up in the USA and Europe, and the servers will run in their respective timezones from 20:00, untill there's anyone to play.
An Australian server was in the plans too, however an unfortunate event rendered this impossible. Though I still have the hope, that the AU subcommunity can set up a decent sever soon, so they can join FragFests too!

How would it differ from a pickup match?

A pickup match is much more like an ad-hoc event. It's limited on player count, and on game modes too.
Frag Fest Servers (from now on FFS) will be online for only a few hours on special FF days, and always run different mods or mutators (ONS,DOM,RUNE,KH,Midair,NixNex etc.) so it'd add more variety to gameplay, and also a chance to try out all the mods online Nexuiz can offer. (On a side note, this is useful for development too!)
The servers will support a higher playercount, to ensure that more people can play at the same time.

    Publicity:

The events will be announced at least one week earlier here on the forum. The announcement will cover all the information needed by the players: date/time of the FF, mod to play, server addresses, and admins/masters of the event.
The servers are public, but the time they are online, they'll have a special name tag:

[FFS]Frag the community! Tonight: XY MOD

The server's MOTD will tell a little more details, and a link to the official forum threads.

An irc channel is already set up feel free to join!

    #nexuiz.fragfest @ irc.quakenet.org

Here all those who'd like to join can gather and chit-chat about the FF or general topics.
In case we can get thrust, an IRC gateway from the servers will be set up on irc.quakenet.org to enable chat into and out the servers, on channels:

    #nexuiz.FFS.EU
    #nexuiz.FFS.US

    respectively.

    Admin and moderation
The servers and the irc channel will be strictly moderated. Trash talkers, team killers, non-behaveours will get a kick/tempban till the event lasts. In special cases (extremely rude behaviour), one can get a permban for the actual week's Frag Fests, and in case one can't behave, a permban to even months.

The main idea of the FF is to play together, "frag your friends" to have FUN, to spread good community ethos and build a more friendly community

The First Fragfest, and the poll:

    POLL IS HERE:
    http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=4834

The first FF will be held in one week, celebrating the upcoming 5th Birthday of Nexuiz!!! w00t! . (1st-7th June)
To ensure that most of us can play at the same time my friends, it's up to YOU to decide when the events will run! Please, vote in the poll above!
In case there's enough voted for two days, the first two results will be the days of the Fragfests. the poll will run for a week, so you don't have to vote at once.
(Here I'd like to mention, that Saturday is out of question: that's a night for friends, family, gettalife etc. :P).

The first theme for the First Fragfests:
    ONSLAUGHT!

SO LET YOUR VOICE HEARD, AND LET'S FRAG TOGETHER!!!
    FRAG THE COMMUNITY!!!

    HELP IS STILL NEEDED!
In case you feel, you have what it takes to help us out, feel free to contact any of the admins! (-z- or esteel or me).
    Currently what we need:
-mappers, who can produce/convert large maps for the event's needs (there are some already, but it's just too large job for sev and me),

  • I'd be happy to help make large maps for the situation! I'm a bit busy with mapping projects right now, but contact me and I can fit it into my schedule.

  • Thx, that would be helpful :)

    About the poll:
Some users have reported errors, that they can't vote. I don't know (yet) what causes this, I'm sorry :(

  • Sounds like a good idea to me. I'd aid in the mapping, but I wont be here much longer since I'm going on holiday and still have exams... then I'm going to a festival :D
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

  • The mappool is still WIP. Currently we have 6 good ONS maps (some of them aren't released yet ;) ).
Time? Until there's interest, but I think 2-3 hours is a good guess.

  • Certainly looks that way.

Too bad, Onslaught is a fun gametype. Most underused in Nexuiz I think, which it does not deserve.

But well, we really should revive this... Who else is with me? :D

I completely agree. Used to play a lot of Assault (Onslaught) in Killzone 1 on the PS2 when I was in a Killzone Clan. It was the mode that was the most consistently fun, and most populated by respectful players with good communication skills--a rarity on a console.
