Anything to do with Zymotic here

  • After a while of no progress in Zymotic development, I've decided to open up the SVN and make public to download and try. It's a single player third person game, with only one full level currently. I've made a quick video to show off it's current gameplay:

Video: High Res Zip file download ------ Youtube vid

    Zymotic Website

The video just shows off the jetpack, some of the weapons (using a lot of Nexuiz placeholder graphics and sounds), and enemies (turrets and soldiers). The objective of the level is to destroy the 5 power stations, one on each base. Right now there are only a few enemies and their AI is very basic. The level is pretty challenging though, and the jetpack and items give a unique gameplay experience. It's using Morph's Arahia_v2 map, originally made for Nexuiz's domination mode.

Would people be interested in helping with the development of this? From level design, to modelling, to QC programming work, pretty much any aspect of development. I'll be putting it on a public SVN in the next few weeks, and it'll be available for download and public testing. It's still in a very early state, but I dont think it will be released if it stays in private development

  • Perhaps the Warsow dev team would find this video interesting , they love jetpacks over there i hear.
The gameplay itself looks really interesting.
Im glad to see arahia getting some more use, a very underated map in my opinion.
I'd be up for some level design, but I'll probably have to do it in the summer. Sometimes i work 70 hr weeks so it's just not feasible right now.
Im not sure that the state of my art is very state of the art, but I'll be watching this thread ay. I've got a few large maps that im still working on which could be of use here. I'll do some screens and come back.

Thanks for finally showing this Vermeulen, funny that the warsow team are thinking about doing this same thing with their code and also talking about jetpacks a lot too.

    Lool :P

Anyway, is the game going to be 3rd person view or is that just for show in the video? If it's not going to be 3rd person view, or if you could choose so yourself, that could be shown in the video just to show people. Another thing, if possible, would be to spice up the graphics to attract more people.

However though, I would like to help out with modeling and stuff involving that.

  • Right now, my plan is to have it default third person. I think it gives a better gameplay experience with levels like this, where a lot of the game is focused on movement with the jetpack, and more about weapon strategies than precise aiming.

I think it'll stand out more from Nexuiz and other free FPS games also because of this

  • The torso's appear to be moving, are the player models segmented or something?

  • MD3 models,
Set up like Quake3, you can use Quake3 player models even (still need to program a animation.cfg loader though)

The game is designed to be the easiest possible to develop for. Sort of like Nexuiz every single aspect of the game is defined in cvars. All the weapons are the same in the code, so their behavior is entirely defined in their cvars, which i like.

  • I think he made the video to basically show what he had. Like he said a lot of stuff was used as fillers from Nexuiz. I think with a sh!tload of development and gameplay tweaking (I don't think he's trying to make another Nexuiz, I think he's trying to make a Zymotic) that the game will look and sound radically different than this. One thing is for sure: that looks damn fun! Wish I wasn't such a noob (a 1 year tech-school course on basic C++) and was able to get my hands dirty with developing something like this.
I have left this website with the rest of the GPL Nexuiz community. You can find us at Xonotic.org

  • I'd be happy to do some level design and assorted other things on this. I'll wait til the SVN repo is up and take a look.

jetpacks? What the hell are you talking about? If you want to attempt to make fun of Warsow you should at least check it out.

  • i get this:

    Code: Select all
    $ svn co http://svn.icculus.org/zymotic zymotic
svn: Repository moved permanently to '/zymotic/'; please relocate

svn docs say it's due to wrong mod_dav_svn configuration. can you fix that.
