New shotgun model

Makes me wonder, that there will be a new shotgun model as i somehow missed a disgussion about that.
Even a surprise for the nex release is very uncommen for nexuiz. And as there is atm no new model committed to svn, a new model cannot be tested nor given feedback.
I wish a discussion for that "new" model or some link me to that one.

Well the reason why it's not been discussed or brought up for feedback and critique is that that would spoil the surprise. For instance, people react more strongly to new things with new versions than if they already played with the stuff before, making the new version nothing more than a number higher.

I happen to agree with Morphed here that some things should still be a surprise and not everything should be displayed for feedback.

Try monks server. I think it might be there (wild guess).

As we have seen making suprises is no good for oss, when several people are working on the same thing without knowledge that other is doing the same thing.

2.5 has new voices, new physics, new weapons, ext lightmaps, radar, nice menu, new game modes, new entities, better antilag, colourful names... I think that there are enough features to make it distinguishable.

Surprises is still good, only that people need to check the forums more often so that other people don't start the same projects. Hanging out on IRC as well to get an idea what is being made and not. I would love a thread here where people posted their todo's but not all people use it so conflict will happen.

Yes, and we all know that Morphed is in no way in favor of OSS. So it's no wonder he's doing secret development now, WITHOUT EVEN TELLING THE OTHER DEVS.

Just like he made the soldier model with non-free animations, knowing it will NEVER be able to get into Nexuiz. The animations aren't even good, it even lacks shoot animation.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Though I like your original concept of the shotgun more than morphed's current shotgun, I don't think your latest model is so much a shotgun anymore. However, this gun is still very badass and I would like to see this gun make it into the game as another weapon.

Yep, I agree, I still would like to finish this model, unfortunately I didn't have much time recently to discuss the functionality of the new weapon. Once we have that sorted out and a place in the arsenal for the model to fit in, I can continue with it.

So for the ideas:
I'm not too fond of a biorifle ala unreal tournament with blobs of goo sticking to walls. Nexuiz already has area denial weapons (as how I like to call them) such as the electro and the rocket launcher. These two are really useful to prevent the opponents from moving through narrow passages. I wonder how would the new weapon then be different in this respect?

I like the idea of
Shockwave - fire a wave that expands but looses power over distance. the wave pushes players and missiles (and maybe does some light damage)

some form of sustained beam weapon, lightning gun / plasma lance ...

This has potential to be fun. It would be nice as a secondary fire, also damaging allied player, so you'd need to be carefuls. Plasma lance sounds nice for the primary as a short-medium distance weapon (that looses power the further away the target is?)
Also, what do you think of the plasma rifle to be unstable and once you kill the player wielding it, the player explodes rather than droping the gun. This could be used as a balancing element if the gun was made powerful.

No, it just means that he's annoying even the other devs with what he does.

Well, there simply is no way to do "secret development" in an open source project. Can't make any surprises if everyone can check out from svn, but still have the stuff tested.

Hello lamoot,
could you continue working on your shotgun from http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/9162 ... 862tr9.png that? Morphed's new shotgun does not look like a shotgun at all(more like a mg). Maybe if you could finish yours it could be an alternate model the player could download.
