I'm new to Nexuiz (how do you pronounce that, anyway?) - every time I get into an actual map to start playing, the screen flickers black. It's really sickening, but the game is playing fine in the background, from what I can tell. What do I need to do to fix this problem? Need my specs?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

First of all, it's pronounced 'nexius'. Not sure where that came from, mabie it was originally nexiuz but then was a typo, and they went with it. I don't know.

Now to the problem. If you have aim or something like that and there's a little toster popup, that could be one reason.

You can try to disable the hardware gamma support, maybe that will help. You can find that option in Options/Color ctrl. No other idea right now..
Unless you have an old version of Nexuiz and use dual monitors, there once was a bug, but that is gone fore quite a while now.

Thanks for the kind welcome, Daedalus. I'm running 1 GB of RAM on Windows XP SP2, an Intel Core Duo 1.6 Ghz processor, and an Intel integrated graphics card. (This is a laptop.) I got the newest version of Nexuiz from the main page along with the map pack.

Esteel, I tried the gamma and it didn't help, unfortunately.

I have found a way to bypass this, although it's inconvenient - every time it happens I can simply go to the video options and hit "Apply". When I get back in the game everything's fine. Maybe this will help the poster of the thread below, at least as a temporary fix.

The story goes that a friend of the dev team went by Nexiuz online but he typoed it when he registered and they decided to use Nexuiz. So you're right, but there's more context to it.

You should be able to alt tab out, then back in to help. I had same problem, compact desktop with Intel onboard video. I think is something to do wtth the Intel grafx chip/card/whatever.

I tortured my notebook (and myself) a bit by installing windows (number of bluescreens i got so far: 2) and did some testing...

The bad news: i also got the flickering after mapchanges, so it seems to be a driver bug, which we can't fix (however i'll try to report it to intel)

The good news: there is a workaround. open the control panel, there should be an icon called "Intel(R) GMA driver" (or something like that), double click it. Click on "3D Setting" (dunno how it's called exactly, i don't have an english version of the driver). You should see a window similar to this:

Make shure "Flipping-Policy" is set to "Blit".

That fixed it for me, i hope, it'll work for you, too.

1) i study computer science and have no problems setting up & using real operation systems
2) it's a Sony Vaio SZ1 notebook, about half a year old

I'm only pointing out the facts. Btw: trying to update the freshly installed XP professional to SP2 rendered it totally unusable, after showing an error that "service.exe has crashed" it doesn't even boot anymore...
So why should i stop right now? Just cause windoze stopped working? :P
