YOU'RE WINNER (Race)

Postby divVerent » Wed Nov 26, 2008 2:30 pm

After some people have misunderstood the existence of this map as a step towards vehicles in Nexuiz... here is a map review thread about the map so everyone can find out what it is and what it is not.

The map is a race track, converted from the famous game "Big Rigs Over The Road Racing". It is meant to be played with the Big Rigs-like game physics "Bug Rigs" contained in current Nexuiz SVN builds, but can be played with normal Nexuiz player physics too (by editing the mapinfo file and removing the line that sets g_bugrigs to 1).

The following things are intentional and no bugs:

  • Scarce item placement; items inside checkpoint pillars; large amounts of health only near the bridges.
If you want to do a really fast run, you need lots of health for your rocket or mortar jumping; however, you can't stack up enough health to use rocket or mortar all the time. You are supposed to stack up at the bridges, and regularily take the small health items to stop the health rot.
  • Weapons placed that don't help much in doing a fast lap.
The map can be played in player-vs-player race mode too, and there you can use these weapons to shoot your enemies. Use the command "ready" or "vcall allready" to enter that mode.
  • Camera movement is independent from the car.
Can't be done in a better way. But, this gives you the advantage of making weapon use easier.
  • Seeker missiles are slower than cars.
Well, that is just fun - if a seeker is after you, don't brake :P
  • Car physics bugs: driving up moutains fast, unlimited reverse speed, spinning when reversing and steering, steering and braking in air: these are intentionally implemented bugs of Big Rigs (and Need For Speed, in case of air braking). However, they do make the game more "freestyle" and speed up the pace, which is a good thing.
  • I always fly above the checkpoint after the second bridge.
Hehe... use a mortar jump acorss the bridge.
  • Bridges, houses are not solid.
Another intentionally taken over bug from Big Rigs.
  • The enemy does not move!
    That's because you're playing against a noob! :P

Note that this does not mean we can have vehicles in Nexuiz soon. This is just modified player physics. There is no code for leaving/entering cars.

Download at http://emptyset.endoftheinternet.org/~r ... r_v1r3.pk3 - but don't even bother, it won't run in Nexuiz 2.4.2. You need either a current SVN build, or play on a server running one (like Race Over The Lazy Dog, from where you can "suggestmap yourewinner" to play it).

Also watch the following videos:

1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

That was another Big Rigs feature actually. Bots that drove nowhere.

For the full on Big Rigs effect you need to have a map that crashes, disappearing bodywork and a "You're Winner!" screen.

Nice.

Too bad you cannot enable bots on yourewinner. They will slow down extremely, often stopping and thinking for some seconds, halting the game.

However, I tell you what bots will do: they'll move to the finish line, then sit there and not know where to go next.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
