After many year's playing nexuiz at a good-level, i'm forcefully going to have to take a break.

Whilst many people's skill level has no undoubtedly increased, mine has done nothing but drop.

It seem's that's it dropped with each new release of nexuiz, why? As each new release get's graphically more impressive, my fps get's impressively more shite.

I just tried to 1on1 francotirador on Final_Rage and was getting a pitiful 30-35fps at it's lowest point and around 55 at it's highest point (basically with him not in screen or nothing being fired).

I just cannot play in these conditions anymore, everything sucks, playing with r_showsurfaces 3 is not only bland but terribly un-fun, I have no feeling in the game with this setting I find it hard to think what I'm picking up or what ammo is what because everything is just grey or black, whenever I get shot and thrown about because of my bad fps it makes aiming incredibly hard, everything goes jerky as hell and my aim is about as accurate as a pirate with no eyes, nothing is smooth and it feels even more un-smooth using r_showsurfaces 3 but i've had no option unless I want my fps to fall by another 10fps, I can no longer play anywhere near like I could used to back in 2.0 - 2.4.2 with a good fps.

So for now, i'll be taking a break till I get a good new pc where I will enjoy playing again, cut out the whine, and hopefully be able to play how I could used to very shortly..talking about new pc this weekend.

For now i'll probably concentrate my time playing poker or UT and watching demo's for francotirador to record, i'll be on IRC for anyone who wants to contact me, but probably won't be talking much in the nexuiz channel.

Anyway have you tried turning off normal mapping and even all realtime lighting? Because that makes things pretty good for my 7 year old GPU, although I do get about the frame rate you are reporting.

I just ordered a new laptop last night, should arrive today. It's really for work but of course I will be seeing if Nexuiz runs alright on it. Can't be worse than on my PC eh!

I was playing with showsurfaces 1 (you know that super-eyecancer setup) for 1 year, on 30 fps, That time there wasnt showsurfaces 3 to save my poor eye So if anyone understands how bad low fps (combined with brainkiller colors) thats me

I can also relate to this, its to say the least a horrible experience.
I found nexuiz on the vast seas of internets around last christmas and started playing with a intel gma950 "gpu". "Yeeeharrr"... not in the slightest. But shiet was so awesome that I lived on I dont know.. porridge and pasta and the like until jan-feb, slaughtered the piggybank and bought a new rig (and yes nexuiz was the sole reason for that).

I really hope you get a new pc, I mean no nexuiz player should, in a perfect world, ever suffer those fps.

Slow hardware sucks. Sending stuff to the UK is expensive and dangerous. Either you come visit me to get some valuable parts, or you have to spend around 400 bucks for the stuff I suggested you to buy.

The new behavior of weapons forces an entirely new learning curve and strategy each time a new release appears.

Rocket launchers no longer are a superior weapon. Direct hits or floor shots at targets feet do nothing any more. Add the tracking rockets to screw up the fire rate and you have a weapon that guarantees death.... To the shooter, not the target.

Stupid fireball is a total waste of bits. Machine gun and shotgun lethality bounces up and down with each release, the nex is also inconsistent.

All these things add up to a major frustrating learning curve each new release.

I used to practice with bots, and could beat 5 or 6 bots on any level I cared to train on. Same number of bots same bot skill and I come in dead last.

Ok, I admit I suck. Lets just get that out of the way. But the hardware is the same, I'm the same, but the score is way way different.

You shouldn't have to learn the game all over each release. Some consistency would be nice.
The degree that .2 changed the game over 2.5.1 is way out of line for a point release.

I actively seek out 2.5.1 servers to play on these days.

Kojn's temporary retirement does not seem to be based on changes in the game, so ICEBIKE's rant doesn't quite fit here Although I have not yet played 2.5.2 because of my own PC problems, I do know Nexuiz is like a constantly reshaping mutant thing that will probably never be stable gameplay wise, ever. I say it's quite a good thing

1. the ASUS deluxe board (although they don't particularly say which one it is, it's compatible to the CPU but actually too old for it, but - so what!)
2. the CPU
3. the DVD
4. mhokay, the price could be okay.

All other parts could be either a collection of old and/or cheap crap, or maybe not. Probably will. I don't know. What I surely know is that kind of advertising and I smell shit (1000GB SATA II Seagate Ultra Fast Hard Disk Space wtflol).
