• Ok, so I'm not quite sure why but I'm not getting a playable FPS with my graphics card. It's an nvidia geforce 7600 GT (not SLI), and can run quake 4 on ultimate no problem (exept for the bloodwork map, but lets not get into that)

I have a reasonable configuration too:

Code: Select all
fov "100"
gl_picmip "0"
gl_texture_anisotropy "2"
r_glsl_deluxemapping "0"
r_shadow_realtime_dlight "0"
r_shadow_realtime_world "1"
r_shadow_realtime_world_shadows "0"
vid_height "768"
vid_width "1024"
viewsize "100"

It especially dips in maps like slimepit, silvercity, and soylant. There are others that I forgot to mention, these aren't the only ones. I've tried alot of optimization, too.

I can barely run anything in my monitor's native rez, which is 1440x900. It could be optimization, but if you look here, it says it's "awesome". With SDL I get about the same performance.

• 1. Always use low settings when playing online :) Or else it's not enjoyable fps wise.

2. Darkplaces (the engine Nexuiz uses) HAS performance issues. It is known for giving people low fps on all machines even brand new ones. I read in #alientrap that it is the graphics drivers that for some reason don't like Darkplaces. Not sure if it can be fixed anytime soon.

The general tip is the use low settings. 'exec low.cfg' and 'vid_restart' is a good idea.

:(

(but maybe you have other issues I don't know about)

• You should better turn off r_shadow_realtime_world, realtime lightning eats fps like crazy...

• Ok. With low.cfg, I got about 30 FPS average, normal.cfg I got about 20-25 FPS average, high.cfg I got about 26-20, and ultimate.cfg I got 3-12 FPS. (with demo 1)

• That's weird, because I _have_ a 7600GT and get everywhere >50fps (average much more) with low.cfg + r_dynamic 1 + r_shadow_realtime_dlight 1 + r_glsl 1 + r_glsl_deluxemapping 1.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

• Very funny cyan :).. your problems were with sli and those are fixed now. Granted the engine does perform worse then some other engines but its being looked into. Its just a huge riddle to the engine developers as the engine IS optimized quite well, it stresses the cpu far less then quake3 for example. For some strange reason the graphic drivers seem to dislike something the engine does but its hard to find out what. Part of the problem is that gfx drivers tend to be optimized for quake3 and that might give other engines problems.
HOWEVER 30fps on average with a 7600 IS TOTALY BAD and i have no idea what might cause it. You could take a look at this post: http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?p=90#90
I mention some system dependent variables at the end.. If i change two of them i get 10fps more on average compared to the default setting of those two variables, although someone with the same OS, gfx card needs to have them at the defaults or it will get slower. So it REALLY depends on the system if changing them will help. That why i do not mention any recommended settings for them, just try benchmarks and change them. But i doubt they will help to get 30fps to as high as 90 fps which i have at low settings.. and your card should get even more.
Did you look through the options in your gfx driver options to find settings that might affect opengl performance?

• No you did not, i was more worried about you pissing off others..
But that sli got me thinking.. cyan had problems with sli and equally bad fps, maybe your drivers think you have sli for some strange reason. Can you try cyans tips in that other sli thread?

• I just think nexuiz has problems keeping a certain FPS "level" if i set maxfps 125 with all the stuff on certain places i get drops < 60 ...

This is with SLI on/OFF

in q4 and cod2 i can keep a stable 125fps, and both games uses the latest technology.

HDR, bloom realtime lightning, DX9 and so on

• well I did find some performance settings and changed those to 'application controlled', I think it was set to some high value that really wouldn't have worked with the other settings.

New benchmarks:

.-------demo1-------.
....low-..200.FPS....
...normal-.80.FPS...
..high-..50-60.FPS..
.ultimate-.5-12.FPS.
'-----------------------'

So just by doing that I think that did it. I had like antialasing to 8x and stuff like that. That was the problem.

• Still i wonder why other opengl games like quake4 seemed to run fine for you.. but those numbers are more like it. Its a bit funny that ultimate.cfg is THAT bad for the fps, but DP is the only engine i know that can do relief mapping.
Can you tell us what settings you changed exactly?
