  • Nexuiz has been released in version 2.4.2 please update to that version and no longer use this hotfix as all its changes and more are in 2.4.2 !!! See here: http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=3087

    Hi there.

As you might have noticed quite some people have problems with the 2.4 release.. The devs are trying to fix them but we need to make sure the fixes work and do not introduce new bugs. So please help to test this 'hotfix' and report problem you experience! The more testing it gets the faster a new version can be released!

The hotfix will get replaced with new versions now and then, please come back and take a look at this post to see if something changed. If you report problems with the hotfix please tell us what version you used! Easiest way is to tell us what name the data/datapatch*.pk3 file has. Also please make sure that if you open the ingame console with shift-escape it shows the same date as the before mentioend file. Thanks!
http://emptyset.endoftheinternet.org/~p ... _2.4.1.zip (As of the moment, 2008-05-05 16:00 this is the latest version!!)
http://emptyset.endoftheinternet.org/~p ... NEWEST.zip (This one will always be the LATEST version in case i'm too slow to update the previous link..)
Just extract the hoxfix over your old installation/files... A REMINDER for mac users.. Extract the hotfix somewhere and then copy the single files from the data directory into your old data directory and copy the rest from the Nexuiz directory (excluding the data directory!) into your old Nexuiz directory. If you would also copy the data directory it would DELETE the old files that you still need for Nexuiz to work!!

BTW please remove the old Nexuiz/pro directory.. before it was single files, now they come in a .pk3 file like Nexuiz/data (but nexuiz will still load the old and outdated single files when they are there)

To see what was fixed/changed so far please take a look at the developers wiki: http://www.alientrap.org/devwiki/index. ... xuiz.Patch
(no need to keep stuff twice)

  • I'll be testing the hotfix on Windows now for you. I'll be posting the results in a short while.

  • Results:

    - 'Lag' that a lot of people seem to have had in 2.4
=> Seems to be fixed since Nexuiz was running smoother with the patch
    - sometimes when joining a game particles did not show (like explosions, rockettrails)
=> Not sure, the first server I joined wasn't displaying the map correctly, it was a dark place with only the items displayed

    Testing more soon.

  • You did not have the map and the map download on the server did not work.. So not your problem or Nexuiz.. Guess either the download configuration on the server is wrong or maybe the file server it points to has the map removed.
Which server and map was it?

  • It IS a problem :)
happened to me in 2.3 too ..
you have to delete the map in dlcache and join the server again ;)
players say it often on cbtctf(or how its called) (-> Space) , and in 2.4 its with facing sometimes too ^^

"lag" , seems to be better , but i lose my connection so can not test it good ;)

  • Is this a patch that will only be needed to be applied clientside, or does it make a difference if also applied serverside?

  • I just intalled "hotfix", but game now is not playable, on all servers I have ping 1000 and 30-40% pl.

When I play with my old 2.3 everything is fine.

Is it possible to remove this "hotfix"?
    I want my 2.4 back :)

  • zomg Misio! You must be seriously having extracted the hotfix over your one and only Nexuiz directory instead of making a second one for testing, and now you can't make a fresh one because you dumped the download file, even though you know that it will take 5 hours to re-download????

  • Actually i'm not sure if you were just making a joke or not :)
Then again in case you were not: I really doubt any of the changes in the hotfix is able to give you a ping of 1000, maybe someone else is using your internet connection? Someone in your house?
The changes in the hotfix were actually quite small, all you would need to get is nexuiz.exe from 2.4 if you really need to go back to 2.4. Either someone sends it to you (ask on irc) or download the patch from 2.3 to 2.4 and use nexuiz.exe / nexuiz-sdl.exe from there..

Still wondering if i missed a joke :D

Nope it is not a joke, that's the demo:
    http://www.nexuiz.pl/z2008-03-07_19-44_ ... manctf.dem
and I have same thing on all servers.

And it is not Internet connection, because I can play with my old 2.3.

Can you try the hotfix again and set cl_netfps to e.g. 20?

    Thanks for trying.

Okay, so what most likely happens: Your internet connection isn't "broken", just "slow" (I mean... 5 hours to download Nexuiz... ewww). The default for cl_netfps is 72, which means the client will try to send 72 input packets to the server and apparently your internet connection just can't handle this without dropping packets left and right.

edit: Oh, can you try the highest value for cl_netfps still working for you?

  • Hah, those particles without textures remind me of War§ow. I like them (except for the part about not having any textures :) )
I haven't had any of those issues though, I'm gonna try the hotfix now. The only thing I've noticed is the sunken or floating items, but that's not really a problem.[/i]

  • No lag on my Mac now!
Performance increased also a little (or is it just me?) :P

First time I applied the hotfix it looked like Mirio's issues.

But then I downloaded Nex2.4 again, applied the fix on the new folder, deleted the old one and pasted the new one in its place. Singleplayer works, servers are online and working.
    Overall an awesome job!
    Thanks, esteel!

EDIT: A friend of mine has an odd thing going on. After he applied the Hotfix on Vista, he's got that "Testing only"-Text as seen in the SVN. But I'm pretty sure, he got the official release. :? Strange.
Is this because the fix is in "testing" stage for now?

Sometimes I can play with 30-40 but sometimes 20 is to much and I have to set it to 10.

In Nexuiz 2.3 I did not have that problem at all, I was always laggy but now it is almost not playable.

  • The TESTING ONLY is intentional, it is there to prevent people from putting the hotfix as is on download sites. It will be removed when it is done.

You can manually remove it by "showbrand 0" on the console, or in autoexec.cfg.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • I played online yesterday and my strange sound bug reappeared with the hotfix depending on which server I was playing. It didn't go away until I was on a 2.3-server.
At least now I got some error messages, I can show. This is what it looks like:

  • Heyho.

My brother currently is here on a visit so we take the time to play Naxuiz 2.4. :)
He (on WinXP) had also the crash on startup so we took the HOTFIX which workes perfectly to fix the startup issue.

However while we are playing we once had some serious lagging. To say first: He has a WLAN connection to my LAN so it may be this issue. However we had 1000 ping for approx 10 seconds and pl. of 72.

While this we could read the message (on his lagging side):
    Code: Select all
    sendto returned error: WSAEINTR

I hope I read this right - he plays on my TV since his Laptop monitor is broken.
As said I don't know if this is related to the WLAN connection but I wanted to let you know.

EDIT: Apart from that console message we also have the same lag effect in 2.4 without the fix. So it's probably a problem with our WLAN. :)

  • Wlan is bad for playing.. it really tends to create packetloss and random ping now and then. Even if my laptop just 2m away from the accesspoint i'm having issues so i prefer real lan with cables ;)

[GF]HarryButt: No idea about those console messages at the moment..

[BOT]Misio PL: That problem should be solved now too, not sure when the next version of the hotfix will be available but i'll (try to) update the first post when i'm sure a new version is available

Among the changes for the 'next' version of the hotfix:
    - further improvements of the 'lag' fix, even smoother now and less problems with slow connections too
    - less problems with quake 1/3 items (some item names conflicted)
    - minor menu changes
    - docu updates
    - fixed the Mac OSX rotating hud problem ?
    - fixed more sound problems ?
