  • i made a little go-kart model for the new race game mode. nothing fancy, but if anyone comes up with some decent concept art for a nexuiz style kart then post them here and i might give it a go.

  • THAT IS SOOOOOOOOO COOL. I like how the innsurrectionist is sitting in the little cart. You should probably make some with different playermodels in them.

  • Just wait when my model is finished :P
zuriastrad, have you thought about giving this model to the Super Tux Kart team? Since we have their map as a racing course, they may add a Nexuiz-model as a bonus character or something :D That'd be awesome!
These guys should actually know more stuff about building a kart too. ;)

  • This brings back the old days of Quake Rally. Such a shame that the source code was lost. Yes, really, it was lost. If ever you see anything saying that for mods you should release the source, just in case you lose it, this is why they say that.

  • okay, yes, it is cool... but...
what about... using the laser with those things? doesn't it look awkward?
or maybe it just so happens to look like a cool boost coming from the kart?

  • Why are there wheels anyway? :D It's a futuristic game, so let's make them into skycars.

  • the go-kart idea is ok, but it occurred to me that i could make models that were just plain vehicle.

if anyone's got any concept art then i'd be happy to try and model it.

  • the kart still needs cosmetic work, but first i've been working on a couple of problems.

the first was the lack of gun. that was easy to fixed by adding the appropriate bone. for now i've dumped the weapon on the bonnet (or hood if you are american). but it could be put anywhere.

the second was a bit more tricky. by sitting the model down i'd made him a lot shorter than the hitbox (what the game uses to decide if a shot connects or not). i could have built stuff above the kart, but instead i tried scaling the whole thing up to match the hitbox. it works, but it looks pretty damn big in most maps and the karts can overlap a lot. not sure if it was a good idea or not.

  • I thought the hitboxes were specific for each model? Like, if you have a player model with wings, the hitbox will be much bigger so that the wings are inside of it. ie: calculated automatically?

Or, since this is mainly for the race mode, can't the size of the hitbox be changed accordingly to fit the kart so you could make the model without worrying about it?

  • nifrek-
i like the idea of having a different shaped hitbox for the race mod. it would be a lot easier than trying to make models that fit the normal upright box.

something i was thinking about was ditching the kart idea and going with something more like the ut2004 vehicles. these would not only be useful for the race mode, but also for onslaught. karts are fun, but they wouldn't be much use in onslaught.
