  • EDIT: Nevermind. Don't have the project files for this one any more.

    Hi.

I downloaded Nexuiz around a week ago and once I'd gotten into it I ended up quite enjoying it. I'm impressed by the overall quality of everything in it.

Anywho. I wrote a song, finished it today, actually, and I think it would fit in the game pretty well. I don't know what the usual procedure is, but I've linked to it below, so take a listen if you want, tell me what you think.

I won't be able to make any changes to it since it was made on a computer at my college, which I do not have regular access to. I used included samples on the Halion One sampler on Cubase 4 for the drums, everything else was done with the monologue softsynth, and another one, i think it was called "spectra" on Cubase 4. I didn't use any presets.

To my knowledge I wouldn't be breaking any rules by using the Halion One samples, since I can't really see the reason in the many samples being included within the software package if they weren't allowed to be used in songs. I did try looking it up but couldn't find anything useful.

Anyway, if it's up to the standards, and more music for the game is needed, I'd love to have it included. If anyone who does take a listen to it really despises it, sorry for wasting your time.

    Mike.

  • Sounded like a mix between IDM and chiptune. Nice.

  • On the whole, I'm getting a bit tired of synths, bleeps and bloops, and drumkits in game music, however successfully or well strung together they may be. I just wish we had more variety.

That said, this is quite an interesting and accomplished set of bleeps and bloops, and more melodic than much of the stuff we have.

    I like it.

  • I get tired of synth stuff as well, but this is composed nicely. However, I feel that the song needs to 'open up' more at some point.

  • I like it! Sounds like a release from the Thinner netlabel.

It seems to blend well with the futuristic "tech" themed aspects of the game such as maps like glowarena. However it doesn't necessarily come across as a track to fragfest to (what would Carni have on his walkman?).

I did imagine one of the evil megacorporations that manufactures the robots using it in marketing material that depicts a utopian world where the robots do everything for you.

I think it'd make a good title/menu/credits track or as background music for a map that has an atmosphere that could be described as "totally IDM"

  • Thanks for the positive feedback.

Do I have to follow a procedure for it to get considered for a place in the game, or do I just let it sit in this thread?

    Thanks

  • I don't know. Personally I would like that maps included in Nexuiz each had his own music (like in UT), but you should ask div. Music gives map better mood (gasoline_powered of fruitiex and scorp's music!!!)

  • I like it. A lot! It may not be one to fragfest to, but it could be used for some credits screen or on large futuristic maps. This really sounds like a pro's work, very nicely done. I also like the somewhat dark atmosphere, makes me think of some of the futuristic maps that generally seem to be in night-mode only.

As for musical diversity... It should fit character and location diversity. On maps like farewell or similar castle-themed arenas heavy use of bleeps and bloops won't really work for the mood. Heavy metal worked ok in Cube, but we should not overuse that either... Some medieval-sounding but fast-paced tunes could work nicely. Of course, after watching FF 7: Advent Children I'm starting to think piano tunes are perfect for fighting (the scene where Tifa fights one of the Remnants). However, I guess this should be taken to another topic.

  • This is an extremely delayed response but what the hell. I like this track (currently listening to it now actually) and the way it's looking I'm probably going to be eating up whatever else you release. Excellent job. I can't think of any off the top of my head but I know that there are maps that can use this track.

Quite delayed. hehe. I'm glad you like it. Unfortunately this track cannot be used since I don't have the source (made it on a computer at college that has since had a wipe).
