  • Here a preview of my upcoming level at beta stage. The layout shouldn't need any changing, maybe a bit smaller for ctf. This is a detailed level so it is taking me a long time to get it all done.

Final version will be a adrenaline.pk3 file that will include 2 maps the dm version and the ctf version which will be a symmetrical. Song will include a remix by chocksta http://chookstamusic.com/ of the main menu theme song of One Must Fall 2097!

Stuff to be completed before final release:
    - make blue side of map blue
    - losts of lighting (with the assistance of fabz)
    - better textures (especially water, but due to the bug in 2.5.2 i can only use shitty water)
    - more detail and realism
    - finalize weapon and ammo amounts and position (this is your level to, tell me what you think needs to be done)
    - lots of optimization

    heres the link: http://cid-b22db93343bb203c.skydrive.li ... _beta1.pk3

    This the ctf version only.
Im deeply sorry for hosting on Microsoft.

For mappers out there I still need to figure out how to make fans, fog, steam, how hint brushes work and ways to optimize this map. So far I have been reverse engineering other maps but any links to advanced tutorials would be great! (Bubba's tutorial is missing? :( http://maint.ign.com/hosted/)

    Any comments would be great!!

  • awesome work on detail, really awesome. I hope the gameplay is good, too...
<Community>: Why was the name "Nexuiz" licensed to IllFonic in a way that allows IllFonic to use the name without any suffix or subtitle for a commercial console game?

  • haha thankyou. We have been testing on Aussienexers CTF 1 and have established some flaws. At the moment only 1/3 of the map actually gets used. I will be shrinking the map and adding jump pads from the side to the middle to increase the amount of cap routes.

Any other construction critisim would be great!

I don't want this map just to be great visuals, I want great gameplay also.

  • pretty damn cool :) albeit a little bit too dark in some places when playing with default brightness.. oh and there's an unfinished stair on the side opposite to the jumping boards. the left one is complete, but the right one isn't

Why has a developer ever needed any reason other than "it looks bloody awesome?"

  • Lordy Geordie!

    That looks absolute awesome!

I've been waiting for someone like you to come along and make such a really cool map based exactly on a real-life place..I've dreamt of stuff like this :p

When I get a new pc i'll definitely be checking this out!

    Please make more!

Come on IRC, I'd love for you to have a crack or two at some of my ideas :)

  • haha thankyou everyone. Yes the blue side of the map has many glitches. I have uni exams (engineering = hard) at the moment and I wanted to stop spending study time on netraident, so i simply mirrored the red side of the map to the blue side without a lot of effort and released it as beta for feedback. Which explains the random moving doors missing sitars ect. But I also have enough feedback from everyone what direction to go next.

I will get back to it in a weeks time but for now im learning blender so I can replace the chairs made from brushes into models to optimize performance. And continue from there.

Also other Australian mapper fabzor3 is also going give me a hand to make it even sexier.

and yes k0ja, I love the idea of real life places for maps. I was thinking of doing an Olympic stadium next with track and field events (poll vault, high jump long jump ect) haha

Ps. keep note this is my second netraident map (other being arena_ctf_v1) so I still have alot to learn. Although I am extremely patient and spend alot of time on my hobbies :P So any advanced information would be of great help :)

  • Cuinnton, for the fans I found out about it through this thread from tonnedu:

    http://www.alientrap.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=58725&sid=050ad63af43cdd8c65549b744a076447

Here's how I did it in my own words:

    1. I make a square brush and textured it with an origin tex.
    2. Then I make another brush above or beside it (depends on the axis the map is supposed to rotate from) and texture it with a nodraw/non-solid tex.
    3. Then I click the origin brush first and then the second brush. Right click and select func_rotating.
    4. Then I find a model (Or another brush that is both visible and solid) and select it and the nodraw/nonsolid brush i just made earlier and press ctrl+k to link them. The linked brush/model will now rotate according to the settings on the origin brush.
    5. Note that you can change the axis of the rotation by ticking the little boxes on the entity viewer window. I didn't notice those at first and had to spend 5 hours wondering why my propeller model only rotated in the z axis, heh.

Hope that helps. Still a new mapper like you, and have no idea concerning fog and steam though. :(

    Anyway, very nice map. :D

  • Thank you Oblivion, appreciate it. Yes I couldn't do the second revision of my map in time for the competition like your sexy creative map corsair.

    A beta2 will be coming soon :)
